Going out to buy new speakers for the desktop. Not looking to spend over $100 and I'm just more confused after reading reviews on newegg.

Any personal opinions/recommendations would be great.

Keeping in mind I'm not any kind of audiophile, I'm using a Creative 5.1 system. I don't know the model number, but I've had them since 2004 or so. I'm happy with the sound.

I have a $10 set of altec lansings I bought in the late 90's from BJ's whosale club that still sound good enough for me. :awe:

I doubt they have any magnetic shields though.

I have the same speakers, though I only use 2.1 because I don't have room for the rears. Had mine since 2001.

I'm saving up to install surround sound in my tv room. This is just for music and gaming in a smaller room.

I'm just saying, computer speakers are crap. You can probably get some proper speakers and a receiver for ~$100 if you search and be patient. Surround !=good

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 --> but they've been disconnected for the past few months and I've just been using my HD555 headphones. I'll probably reconnect them after I move and after I have a slightly bigger desk to work with.

Logitech Z560. Had them for a long time and I believe I picked them up from a Dell special originally.

I've owned a 2.1 Altec Lansing set since '99 & they're just now starting to show their age. Quite possibly the best $70 I've spent on PC equipment. Definitely got my money's worth.

You should check out the Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks II. I've had these for about 6 years and they are incredible:

They are a little over your price range, but I think you can find some used and/or refurbished ones for around $100. I purchased mine new on sale for about $125.

At home, I ran a digital out into my receiver (NAD, and out through a Polk Audio 5.1 setup).

At work, I have a Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 setup which sounds amazingly good, considering...
