What kind of car (small, cheap, 70s-80s, rear-wheel) should I make my project car?

I'm gonna rip out an engine and redo a car. Trying to decide what kind I should use. I need it to be rear-wheel, cheap, and small. I was trying to remember whether dodge daytona's are rear or front.. but I think they are front. A daytona is about as big as I want to go though. I also need to make sure that parts are easy to get. It would be cool if it looked a little sporty. Any suggestions?

An f-body or mustang would be good although they may be a little bigger than what you want. Mustang's aren't that much bigger than daytona's though.

look no further than a Fox body mustang...cheap, RWD, LOADS of aftermarket parts...its extremely easy to make them fast...id suggest an 87 or newer fuel injected model, you probalby wont even need to swap the engine, but if you want you can get a six cylinder model, which woould be even cheaper, and drop a new drivetrain in it

Find a camaro in that time range (81 was the last year of the 2nd generation camaro). 350's are extremely common and are rock solid.

Camero is a little bigger than I wanted. Does anybody remember whether the daytonas or shadows were rear or front wheel? And keep the suggestions coming :)

Thanks

A Sapporo.

I've seen big blocks shoe horned into those.

And they are rare, so most people don't even know what they are, or what to expect. ;)

And you can probably pick one up for next to nothing. (I traded a stick of 128 meg RAM for one I have! :) )

You can also find them with 4 wheel disk brakes.

True, indeed. I do appreciate the input though. Maybe I can find a deal on one that is busted to hell and clean it up.

Sweet. V-8 Vegas are monsters on the drag strip.

What rear end are you using?

Cute Little Chevy

Ahhhh yes......cute it is!

Also......Our Goodies (do the drag-n-drop thingie :( )

BTW: I'm not a huge Ford/Mustang fan but i would have to say that mid 80's stangs are cheap
and do have a LOT of potential for smallish cash layout.

Havent put too much thought into it. its one of my dads projects that he never finished (I guess putting stuff off runs in the family ;) ).

theres a ford 9" sitting in the back of the kammaback, dad was planning on running that so he could stick on some fat wheels.
