I don't know why you want to limit yourself to "American or German". The old Celicas were AWD Turbo... pretty sweet if you ask me. But anyway... if I were limiting myself to American or German I would definitely get a Camaro or Firebird. Bah, I'm getting one anyway. :p

Not all of the old Celicas were AWD and turbo, they had special runs called the "Alltrac" and were AWD and pushed 200HP. These are relatively rare and hold their value VERY well. The others were RWD before 86, FWD after and were all 4 cylinder NA. The older brother, the Celica Supra, is a whole different story. :)

if i could afford a supra twin turbo, that's what i'd be getting. but i cant.

i dont mind rebuilding it. i will be anyway. and yes, i do have many cars to drive while im rebuilding it :p

i was looking at the camaro... the main reason i want american or german is because i want lots of displacement. you just dont get that much with an asian car... options are limited. the reason i want displacement is cause it allows me more options. :)

i can weld, i will be rebuilding the entire car from the ground up, the 12.5 is just to get me a good starter and a couple upgrades if necessary. i do all work myself, i have my own welding stuff, i will be doing my own body work, so the condition of the body isnt a big deal.

this change things somewhat?

sorry i didn't read all the tread so i dont know if any of these have been mentioned..... an e30 m3 (very very very fun and fast car), mr2 (fun cause its mid engine, and feels like your driving a go-cart), porsche 944 or possibly a 951 (turbo model, perfect 50/50 balance, will out corner/handle about anything even same year 911's), or you could go with a 3 or 5 series bimmers... but if i were to recommend any car for 12500 it would definitly have to be the e30 m3 or 944/951.

You cuold go for a pickup:
Ford F-150
GMC Sonoma
Chevy S10

They are all decently powered, and you could find them in your price range.

It's a shame that you just eliminated most reliable cars. BMW and Mercedes are below Ford and Chevy in reliability now, and those are still far below Toyota and Honda.

A 90-96 Nissan 300ZX TwinTurbo
300HP stock but easily upgradable to 400+
It's one of the few Japanese cars that is NOT a "ricer"
Still looks DAMN SEXY after all these years...

Well, do you really want something "newish" ?

If all you care about is power, pick up a good condition 70s musclecar (maybe a ragtop) and replace driveline as needed.

If you're a supra fan, what about a 300ZXTT instead? Easy mods to 400 horses, a few more bucks will get you 500. Great daily driver as well.

If you want a mad max project, pick up a Jeep wrangler (anything from 89 on will do), pull the driveline and drop in a Chevy 350 (or possibly a supercharged 5.0) and a 9" rear end, and you've got a pretty wild ride - and the ultimate convertible. You shouldn't be taking something like that to the track, but you could probably walk away from an 03 vette off the line - and that's with the top down and the doors off. A wrangler is a fantastic project vehicle, especially if you have welding/metalworking skills - no end to what you can do, and if you keep it in good shape, it's a chick magnet.

Edit: Of course I'm biased, I have a 400hp 300ZX and a wrangler in the driveway, but I'm very happy with both of those choices.

My opinion and it may be worth .50 but save that money and use it towards a downpayment

used cars = used problems !

do you guys just drive japanese cars? jeez...

nah, i dun want a wrangler. it has to be a car.

ideally, supercharger out the hood, breaking 500 horsepower after some mods... i have to find a pic now... i want something similar to what Mad Max drove in the Road Warrior.

Ford Torinos are a good option. They are fair in price, easy to work on, and solid car to drive.

I'd look for a early 90's BMW to 95 I've seen 3 here on AT for sale that were quite nice and within all your perameters plus they look Dope! Heck a 325is 735IL 525I is a very respectable car that is fun to drive and you still look damn good doing it.

Twin turbos on a 944 with cowl mounted intercooler.

Your madmax fantasy is way out of a 12.5k car.

If you want to go all out get a 69 roadrunner 440 hemi with a supercharger on a carbon hood with a hurst 4speed and 640 hp.

That will run you about 45k though.

at 325 is only a 3.2 liter 4 banger with 195hp, a 535 is a 5.3 liter six with 265, and a 735 is a 7.3 liter 8 with 325hp, hp to weight ratio is bad on all three.

plus

he wan't to spend more than 12.5 and wants a supercharger.

he might as well build himself a funnycar.
