If you want American or German, you better spend about 8k and save the other 4500 for the inevitable engine and transmission replacements.

Aw that's too bad, cause I was gonna suggest the MR2 Turbo, but that's mid-engined... It's RWD though and PLENTY powerful for a car that small. 200HP and 200TQ. 92-model (not new ones).

Alternatively you could look for a used 300ZX TT or maybe a used Supra TT - but it'll cost you an arm and a leg for insurance. ;)

In that price range, I would be getting either a '97 prelude, '97 or below 240sx, 1999 or older acura CL, 1999 or older Nissan Maxima, 1999 or older Infiniti I30, or maybe a 98 or newer Accord Coupe V6. But, you want american or german, so you're limited to a crappy 'stang/f-body or a car that will eat your wallet and give you expensive turds.

Edit: A 1999 Chevy Camaro Z28 SS is in your price range, kbb is around 12k.

You won't find a Supra TT that you want for that price range. If its still in good condition you would be paying 15k or more.

Did you not see the RWD requirement?

And who in their right mind recommends a non 2003 Accord V6 coupe to someone looking for a performance vehicle to mod?

I was saying that if I was looking for cars in the price range, that's what I would be looking at. I clearly stated that he is limited to american f-bodies.

the stangs are reliable as anything else on the road why does everyone wrongly think that you'd have to replace the engine/transmission on them?

Could probably find a 1969 Camaro for that price :) (my current "might be able to get one in the semi near future" dream car).

Anyone that knows hondas aren't as bad ass as the brainwashed think. If you want power from the factory, go Nissan.

That's why i'm saying, for $12.5K, get a 91 240sx, and spend the extra $10K on mods.

Where did I ever say that hondas were badass  I just stated that, if it were me with the money, that's what I would be looking at.

You could probably get a Cobra Mustang, a Z28/SS Camaro (or TA equivelant), or maybe an older Vette for that money. The Dodge Stealth (AWD Turbo model) is also worth looking at in your price range.

Nice suggestions BatmanNate! Nice cam/fbird and drop an LS1 in there. :D

I don't know why you want to limit yourself to "American or German". The old Celicas were AWD Turbo... pretty sweet if you ask me. But anyway... if I were limiting myself to American or German I would definitely get a Camaro or Firebird. Bah, I'm getting one anyway. :p
