What kind of bug is this?

Here's a pic from my uni lab. It's in the Carcinophoridae family of the common earwigs. Other similar families include Labiduridae and Carcinophoridae. I was actually surprised to see how many females were in the entomology class.

Earwigs and if you got mulch that is where they are probably coming from. bought a bought a few years back and the little bastard invaded my house. took two years of spraying to get rid of them.

Ahh..my first post and it has to be about bugs. sigh. I hate bugs. If u have kids or pets,it is safe to leave a trail of borax along the walls and corners where these critters scuttle. It scrapes the underbody open and they dessicate. In the food pantry you can use crumbled pennyroyal, tansy or rue leaves. Replace once a year. I'm not an eco-hippie, just tired of using bayer kills everything in it's path. Good luck!

I thought it was diatomaceous earth that was the abrasive killer. Didn't know that was why borax worked so well as a bug repellent/killer...

Earwigs can be annoying...but they're not really harmful to anything.

heh i believe the common familiy is forficulidae ;).
