ok, so right now, I"m doing really bad in my engineering classes, so there is a chance that I am considering switching my major to math(since I've already taken so many math classes anyways).

Now, what can a bachelor of Arts in mathematics get me these days and when I graduate(in 2 - 2.5 years)?

all I can think of is being a middle school/high school teacher. But is there something that is better? This is assuming that I graduate w/ a bachelors only.

I guess what I want is something that might be as prosperous as an enginner salary wise.

You can do anything you want.

Software, IT, cryptography, security, banking, consulting, etc.

Math applies to almost every industry

awesome job, good pay.

Hard as hell depending on what university you go to. I'm sure the jobs themselves are fine, but the schooling is difficult depending on where you go.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing although I have graduated over a year ago. I am still interested in computer programming however.

Can you give us more specifics on what else you may be interested in doing after you graduate?

IMHO, however, don't tie too much of what you will do after college on what you will major. Not to say that it won't, but just go ahead and study in whatever subject you are the most interested and to keep focusing on it.

Edit: grammar error

Some guy is getting hired at my work right now... he has a bachelor's degree in "Ethnic Literature" or some BS like that. Apparently if that's your major, you get a job as an assistant editor for printed reports.

I'm just posting cause I'm annoyed that idiot is going to be paid more than me. I kinda bitched at my boss about that one. He said he's working on a raise for me... I think he's just telling me what I want to hear.

A BS in math alone won't get you much. The reason is since every engineer out there has taken just as many math courses as you - plus they have engineering knowledge. If I were an employer I'd choose any one of them over a simple math major. Of all the math majors I knew - every one of them became either a teacher or went on for a MS or PhD in math (or some other field).

I don't see why he's the idiot.

Agreed.

This is an example of tech snobbery at it's finest.
