What it is to be american?

Well my english comp class has assigned this. So I was thinking, I would like to know from all of you who are not american, what it is to not be american. I can think of many reasons I don't like to be american but I am sure there are more.

It's commonly attributed to Voltaire, though in truth Voltaire himself never said it. The quote arrises from a correspondant who used the phrase to summarise Voltaire's point of view on, IIRC, Rousseau.

I am not trying to. First of all I do not want to hear all of the same old, its freedom... And I would just like to know why some people would rather not be american.

Sure. But you must understand I am writing about the country now. Not what america is supposed to be. Also these are generalizations of america. What the goverment does, what the companies do and so forth. I personally don't think I fall into these catagories but america in general seems to. And since I am american I am these by assosication. Sorry but I am having a hard time getting what I want out.

1. Narrow sited
2. Big headed
3. Stubern
4. Wastfull
5. Spoiled
6. Hipicritical

Also I was not and still don't think I am clear enough on what I want to cover. Its more of not why you would not want to be american, but what is wrong with america. And being apart of america connects you to the bad parts.
