With Ahmedinejead (sp?) pulling off all these antics, my only solace is the hope that he is, in fact, bereft of any real power, and that said power rests mostly in the hands of the Ayatollah.

But how much power does the president wield in fact? Is it completely out of his bounds of authority to point a nuke at somebody, and pull the trigger? Does anyone think he's that crazy?

And for those of us who believe that Iran has a right to pursue nuclear capability, do you then denounce any action of the UN to curb this pursuit?

How much of a threat are UN sanctions?

What would Iran have to do to warrant a forcible intervention?

I welcome opinions.

My opinion:

There is no moral equivalence between the civilized nations, who don't call for Israel to be destroyed, for Islamic revolution across the globe, etc., and some of the crazier ones that do. It is not hypocritical in the slightest to say that we (the US and other non-crazies) are entitled to nukes, and crazier nations like Iran, North Korea, and others, are not.

The simple reason is that we've demonstrated that we're not about to go insane and start nuking. The same cannot be said of Iran and NK.

Edit: Gah. Mods, I didn't see the other Iran thread. I hereby request this thread either be merged with it or locked. Sorry for the mistake.
