I don't have a job where I have to look busy.

when there's nothing to do, there's nothing to do. as long as nothing is getting ignored, my bosses don't care if we surf the web, play flash games, or whatever.

Just run programs that normalize your mp3s or get some bizzare looking defrag program, or download all of your favorite porn using wget. Just make sure it's displayed on your 3rd or 4th monitor. You DO have a 3rd or 4th monitor right? How the hell can you look busy without one of those!?

Always have a really messy desk, because if it is clean then you have too much time to clean. The George Costanza works really well too.

Also, this program helps when you just need that extra break.

My boss sites right in back of me, he has full view of my computer all day, so have to always be busy. One of the many reasons I've leaving to go back to my old job next week.

i do a little bit of every trick mentioned... except the george costanza method.

dual height taskbar filled up with word & excel documents open, having multiple sessions of SAP running, pdf files in the background, lots of Novamange windows open, outlook with emails open, etc etc

and on my desk, stacks of documents, one set of documents with a highlighter and red pen on it, etc etc

i try to look slightly disshelved because i'm loaded with work, yet look like everything is organized where it should be. i don't like my desk to be a pig sty

I've always got an Excel spreadsheet open. I'm constantly praying that nobody will come and look to closely because I've had 8 different forums open while "working" too frequently to count.

I need to think about installing Opera on this computer or something, keep the taskbar clutter down.

One guy here at work uses the old minimizing taskbar trick. I personally can't stand it though.

I don't surf AT at work but if I did, I would type something in Word while the boss is around and return to surfing Atot when he's not near.

FireFox
Switch Proxy Tool Extention
List of proxies to import

I can access anything and everything from work now, since your not accessing the internal proxies, and thus no internal smart filters. Gotta be careful though, I only use it to read gamspot, IGN, gamefaqs, and any other gaming site that is blocked.

I sometimes walk around with a clipboard. If ive been standing around for awhile and I know the manager knows, when he comes around Ill ask about our numbers for the day/month etc to change the subject. I work in retail...

I always thought it would be cool if someone made a skin for chat programs (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo) that makes it look like you are typing a document either in notepad or word. That would be perfect for looking busy.

Look straight forward and walk fast. Be out of the office as much as possible and always have a status of the projects you're working on (helps if you have multiple projects)
