What is your secret technique to "look" busy at work?

my secret is to not care whether people think i look busy or not. i do my work and its always done ahead of schedule.

oh and to surf atot, i use firefox's usercontent.css file to make it almost all plain white, just because i spend an obscene amount of time reading threads here sometimes

I find actually working works best.

But whenever I'm ahead of schedule or just want to goof off for a couple hours I do find George Costanza's theory of 'looking annoyed' does work extremely well.

we call that the defense paper here... use it to block more work...

or do it george style, look agitated all the time.

I just look really pissed off and annoyed all the time. My theory: If I look annoyed and pissed, i look like Im working really hard, and concentrating on hard issues that need work.

that's what i do... i always keep an important-looking excel spreadsheet ready for when the boss walks in 😉

I have a semi fat report sitting in front of me right now. I have a pencil sitting on it and a pen and post it note next to that. I have alt-tab ready but I'm not really concerned.

I've been here for almost 4 years, just as a part time thing while I'm in school. I have spent hours and hours online, eveyday and they've said something maybe once.

can slimbrowser do this?

When you walk around make sure you are carrying something. If you work in the field, a meter is a good thing to have with you. Or blueprints.

I keep sites like Newegg or tech sites at the ready so when someone comes in or I hear them walking towards my office I can quickly click on another website that looks like I am looking something up. One nosy beeyatch in particular seems obsessed with seeing what is on my screen everytime she comes in here and it takes special effort because there is a file cabinet in the way and computer parts.

I work retail, so i just kinda walk around alot. That makes me look like I'm doing something constructive. They don't pay me enough to actually do any thing though.

These are great. My boss actually sits behind me in his little office area. I am usually not doing much work unless people have issues. I am on the forums, fark, comics, news, etc. I just click on outlook if he gets up. I can also tell by the way he walks down the hall when he is coming.

never heard of that browser.

I've always got an Excel spreadsheet open. I'm constantly praying that nobody will come and look to closely because I've had 8 different forums open while "working" too frequently to count.

I need to think about installing Opera on this computer or something, keep the taskbar clutter down.
