What is your Screen Resolution (poll for studying)

There's been threads AND polls on this before. Use the Search, even if it sucks it's still helpful sometimes.

That said, I don't think the audience here is indicative of the general internet population. Anandtech Forum people are mostly geeks and/or technojunkies.... so... the resolutions are probably higher (on average) here than the average internet user.

That said, IMHO, web designers shouldn't be designing based on resolution as the end user is supposed to be able to resize the browser to a comfortable size for them. If you must pick a minimum I'd suggest NOT going over 800x600. I know MANY people who still run in 640x480 resolution, and many OLDER folks who won't go higher than 800x600 on a 17-19" monitor.

This is an enthusiast forum, everyone is going to be running AT LEAST 1024x768. The majority of web users, however, run 800x600 and in some mind-boggling cases, 640x480. Always target 800x600 for web design.

er... perfect balance depends upon your monitor size, wouldn't it? or you guys mean for web design? still lots of 15 inch monitors out there, and will be for a while especially when flatpanels become normal; people will spring for the leetle ones first

1152x864 looks huge for me! Reminds me of 640x480 ... I prefer 1280x1024 (yeah, yeah, I know it isn't standard :p )

I usually run around 1280 x 1024 but if I'm doing really cool 3d modeling with 3dsmax I may even go up to 2048 x 1536 :Q:)

1280x960 here, 1280x1024 looks squashed. If my eyes get tired (stupid 60 Hz max up there) I drop it down to 1152. Gaming is either 1024 or 800x600.

I run 1024x768 on my desktop and 1600x1200 on my laptop.

if your primary concern is web design then I would recommend you to run at 800x600 cause not all people around the world have 1024x768 setting.

Yup, totally true.

I try to make my websites viewable on 800*600 on average. It seems to be the "default" Windows setting and most of your general pc population will leave it as such.

However, just like with anything else that's being published for some mass audience, you need to determine who that audience is. If your making a site for little old ladies to buy yarn from, then definitly consider a lower res. If this is a site for techjunkies, then a higher res will probably work for you just fine.

800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 are the most used. But being that the majority of people here are 1337 computer people i would think that the more+ would be pretty common as well

1280 x 1024

At work, I'm amazed at how many people run 800 x 600 or even 640 x 480 on 17in+ monitors. Pet peeve of mine.
