What is your prefered method of communication?

In person.

I loathe instant messaging, email is a pain in the ass (in terms of dialog) and I really, -really- hate cell phones. Landlines aren't so bad though.

But yeah, generally if I want to communicate with you I'll see you in person. I hate being interrupted while doing research or studying for school... its f'ing annoying. And cell phones really blow.... ever get called in a grocery store (while particularly feeling good like you should--at a grocery store) to be told your brother is dying? It sucks. You shouldn't take that crap around with you everywhere.... toss the cell phones! Who wants to be that accessible anyhow?

The only time I've ever needed cell phones is to coordinate a Friday night... but if you are all going to the same club or bar and know in advance you really don't need one.

Someone once told me that cell phones are for people who WORK for important people; important people don't carry cell phones 😉

In person is a given IMO, and shouldn't be part of this poll.

Yep, I refuse to install any IM program. E-mail is my first choice (after face to face, which is a given, IMO), I don't bother will cell phones, and rarely pick up my ringing cordless, even though it has caller ID.

That's NOT always possible, which is what this topic should be about... your favorite secondary means of communication.

That's EXACTLY what makes E-mail preferable. You don't read it UNTILL you're good & ready!

I don't bother with them, but I could see having them available for emergencies. You can easily shut them off. I certainly don't see any reason to be yapping on them 24/7, like so many morons around here.

That's why I won't use an IM program.

Preaching to the choir!

I bet they carry them, but shut them the fvck off, till they need something!

I've also been told that you can tell how important someone is by the number of keys they carry. The fewer keys, the more important they are. They'll have drivers, someone to let them in the f'ing door, etc.
