no highs, no lows, must be bose

Actually not really true. The Bose sub-sat systems (the most popular Bose speakers among uneducated consumers) are ALL highs and lows, no mids.

well the acoustimass set i've heard through my mates HK amp sounded very full, with plenty of mid range...

i bet at least 3/4 of the people bashing bose in this thead are going on an article they read on the net, not actually hearing them through a decent amp...

EDIT: tho in true forum fashion they will deny this strongly, even if they haven't heard them 😛

Rating of 1 to 10 for overall quality and sound.
Bose .... maybe a 4 or 5 ... dependant upon model.

now a Brand like Soliloquy..... I give a 10.

I've auditioned many speakers. The Bose, quite simply, sounded awful next to just about any entry level high end speaker system or set. The mids were completely gone.

My amps in my home theater systems are HK, by the way. Very nice sound, but annoying functionality quirks.

yeah i don't really feel qualified to rate them against other expensive ones since i haven't really listened to much else in that sort of price bracket.

If you're never heard anything good in your life, then you''ll think Bose is good.

Go to an audiophile show and then compare the Bose system, then your universe will be redefined.

For the money Bose asks, you can have a KICK ASS audiophile system that would blow the door hinges off Bose.

This is indeed the universal truth of Bose.

What do you expect from trying to have one driver do everything? 😀

Pretty dang crappy.

They are decent speakers/systems and really aren't that bad.....if priced about 1/6 of what the asking price.

Bose's marketing is second to none.

The logitech z-5300's with internal amp that I hooked up to my dvd player sound as good if not better than my friend's 2k bose speakers.

BTW, I paid 110 after rebate for them 😀

If you think Bose are worth buying, I've got a $500 power cable to sell you... 😉

With that said, if I could afford it, I'd rather have a setup with decent professional studio monitors rather than this "audiophile" nonsense.

But "decent" professional studio monitors are audiophile quality.

Don't listen to these queers.

Bose makes a good speaker. Among the best in the regular retail world.

The differnece?

They are HORRIDLY overpriced for what they are. If Bose didn't control the prices(they completely do, you can't have a sale on Bose) they'd be considered "better"

In one sense of the word, that is quite true. Unfortunately, I have a bad taste of the term "audiophile," from at one time being around someone who believes in magic pebbles, $2000 speaker cables, and little strangely-CF-card-shaped devices to improve the sound of one's CDs.

I think most agree with you. What gets BOSE so much flack is that they rely on people believing "you get what you pay for". Unfortunetly with BOSE you don't, if they had sent you 10 sets instead of 1, ok that's acceptable.

Oh..one of those nutjobs.

I know what you mean though..I want a set of gooood studio monitors..I wan't to hear the music as accurate and neutral as possible, with good lows, mids, and highs. That is all I want.

Best in the retail world is really pushing it. You have Athena, Klipsch, JBL, Infinity....yadada you get the point all easily available at your local worst buy and I betcha any of these could easily match any of the Bose speakers sold today.

Simply put, you cannot get a 2.5" driver to cover 20-20K Hz. Simply cannot be done. Not to mention the plastic cabinets on the satellites. Obviously they are pushing the "blend it into your decor factor" but like you mentioned that shouldn't take up the cost as they have done. It also doesn't mean they should throw around terms as if they are the best speaker you can buy, which couldn't be any further from the truth.

I've only heard bose speakers one time and I must say I was not very impressed. christ I can't believe they try to charge 2000+ dollars for that crap.
