What is the next one on your list?

For me, I want to gut, re-insullate and re-drywall our storage room, including putting in a new, much smaller window and get all new shelving.

I want to do much of the work myself, but I will have to hire someone to help with hanging the drywall (I've never done it) and reconfiguring and installing the window (I have no idea how to do it).

The window may be a pain defending on your siding. Definitely get help with the sheet rock.

Kitchen, gutted, hopefully under $12K. Spring 2012.

I am building one of those tall play things for cats. I could buy one, but using tools is so much more fun.

Sheetrock is pretty easy, but can be intimidating.

Just got done putting in a huge new patio and hot tub. Next will be exterior painting and then carpet and flooring.

Depends... Drywall and compound is easy. Plaster is a bitch though.

My next (not including a couple works in progress) is replacing my front door. Although it is technically a small mudroom that's getting fixed up with it. The current door was installed so poorly it's not even funny.

Replacing a door (with frame) and prepping to paint the house (exterior stucco).

Then I get to paint the house. Paint has nearly doubled in price since the last time I painted the house. The last time I bought a 5 gallon bucket it cost $75 ... now its over $120 a gallon!

Same here. There were also plans for a cheap bar area w/soda fountain machine right outside the home theater room and/or master bath remodel but those are on hold while we figure out wtf is going on with our health insurance and my wife's grad school

Fix the torn up carpet on the landing of my basement stairs. Cat was peeing there so an area of carpet and pad had to go. Cleaned then Killzed the wood underneath.

That or tear out the whole carpet and put down some kind of wood looking flooring. I hate vacuuming those stairs anyway.

Need to get a bunch of art framed and hung. That's about it around here; just bought a car, so that's my biggest expense for a while.

I do need to fix my garbage disposal, but I honestly have no idea what to do with it, so I may just ignore it forever. :D

Aren't disposals standard installations? Like, twist, remove, put in new one, twist, done?

I've got a lot of little projects to do on the house - hanging some art, timed switch for front porch light, things like that. I suppose wiring my house with Cat5 and Coaxial (built in 1993 and only 2 coaxial outlets, wtf?) and new upstairs carpet. Nothing super major.

It is stucco.

But 'Holmes on Homes' makes it look so easy! ;)

It is easy... till you get to the taping part ;) Well worth paying someone to do that if they do it right.

I'm just finishing up on built-in entertainment cabinetry and crown molding. Not sure if I want to tackle relocating my stairwell next or installing some windows and baseboard radiators to replace the huge ones.

I am refinishing the stairs leading to the basement. I put in new flooring in the rec room but left the stairs for the last project. I sanded them down and the treads are oak and will look good after staining and sealing. The risers are pine and look crappy so I'm thinking about putting a thin oak veneer over each one.

I am torn between building a deck, gazebo, or a bomb/fallout shelter.

Deck could probably be built in a full weekend, and I can do the work myself.

Gazebo would probably take a couple of weekends to build.

Bomb/fallout/hurricane/tornado shelter - the shipping container cost around $3,300, needs to be brought from the supplier to my house, have a bulldozer dig the hole, set the box in place, vent pipe and service pipes installed, 6 inches of cement poured over the top, back filled with dirt, install battery bank and solar panels, install shelving system for can goods and can rotation system, install ventilation system, bunk beds,,,,,.

finished the basement myself this year and added a home theater down there. Next year I plan on expanding the master bath by shrinking the 2nd bath, as well as get rid of the tub and put in a 2 person standing shower with a bench, put in radiant heating, retile, and get a double vanity. Plan on doing all the work myself, except maybe the plumbing. But sharkbite and pex makes plumbing so easy!

GL. started kitchen in June. ~9K including flooring in 2 adjacent rooms. Still doing finishing work because I got tired of working all night on weeknights

yeah thats pretty much been my experience

once I am done with the finishing work(some baseboard, door casing, cabinet endcaps) I need to refinish my stairs and build banisters for it.

then probably replace the foyer floor with the tile I already bought for it

this summer i hope to build a deck. i gotta see how much money i have after doing the basement.

I don't see a 20x20 ft deck being that expensive (well compared to re-doing a basement).

yea taping and finishing drywall is a pain and messy. I hung the drywall in the basement reno myself (with the help of a couple friends). But hired someone to finish it for me. well worth the money, but it would have taken me 4x as long as him

Yep, hanging the drywall isnt all that bad. Plenty of tricks for making the cutouts you can find online (like the lipstick trick). The taping and mudding is the part i hate. Worth checking on prices for someone to come do just that part vs doing the whole thing....sometimes it is just cheaper to have someone do it all though as they can get the materials a bit cheaper so it evens out. Least thats been my experience.

As for me....running running the speaker wire through the walls instead of on the carpet is the next thing. In the spring itll be building a little firepit area in my yard. Need ot fence in my backyard as well but might hire that part out.

If you do it yourself and build out of treated pine it shouldn't be too bad, if you want composites or some sort of fancy wood it could really get expensive ....
