I have a power cord from an apple2, thats over 10 years old.

Not sure it counts as a component, but everyone above me thought so...

My longest running part? Far and away my HP LaserJet 4L printer. Purchased in December 1993 for my Twinhead OEM'ed Tandy 486 laptop, this thing has survived college and the required term papers, three relationships, and three roller coaster rides on UPS Ground. I still have it and it works great, not a problem.

Second place goes to two parts I got at the same time:

1) A Matrox 850 meg hard disk drive. I got it with my superfast 486-DX4 100 MHz system way way back in July 1995. :) It was my primary Windows 95 HDD for three years, then my SuSE Linux drive until just about 3 weeks ago. It was still running fine when I took it out of my system.

2) The FDD from that system.

(Looking forward to all the parts coming in for my new Athlon 1.33 GHz, just days away... :) )

Moniters didn't used to live forever although they may have gotten better. I had one that in maybe 1993/4 blurned owt one color I think(is that possible?) It looked really weird in SimCity or Did have SimCity2000 by that time.

my mousepad...same one that came with my 286...best surface ive ever used...eventually ill get a ratpadz or soemthing but until then this thing is great

That would have to be my 15" Apple multiscan monitor. I've had it for four years and it still works perfectly, but I've upgraded to a bigger monitor.

My power cords.

LOL! I'll go one further and say my Apple IIe case has out-lasted your cables. ;)

got a Magitronic 17" monitor that'll be 5 in August...also an S3 Trio video card the same age...Heehee... An Abit BH6 mammaboard which is ageing gracefully in my home network sys at home...

Oldest I'm still using would be my HP printer, 4 years, then my Aopen motherboard, 30 months. My USR isa modem is right up there too but I got it used 2 years ago.
My old daytek 14" monitor was sold last fall when it was 5 years old and still working fine.

I hate to admit it, but...my COMPAQ. aacckkkk... I hate that thing. Bought it in 12/95, (hey..i was a newbie). It still runs great. P133, 16mb ram, 1.6gb HD. Works as brand new. It even outlasted the monitor which crapped out a few weeks ago :(. Oh well, my sister has it now...muhahahaha ;).

My Yamaha DCS817 sound card is still going. I had it since 1998. It doesn't disappoint me in counter-strike:)

Floppy since 97...

And here's a new one to the list- SCSI Zip drive (internal).. also from 97. After that would be my case.

edit- Oh yeah- everything still going strong too!

I don't like to talk about my longest lasting part. It's worked just fine for 20 years and I hope it lasts me my entire life. ;)










Seriously though, either my case or floppy drive. Had them both for years. Will be replacing the case with an Atec SX1030 so I guess the floppy drive then.

My dual 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drive originally shipped with my gateway 2000 p60 processor in 1993. Both drives still work. But for some reason I can't seem to find disks for the 5.25"...Oh well I guess some things just go out of fassion.

Actually its my fathers, and for some reason he thinks he has tax records from like '93 on 5.25", that he somewhere still has the software to access them with. Thus he insists that it be moved now accross 3 rebuilds.

well, i have a 14" monitor from my 486 that i got in '93 and it still works fine (although it doesn't get used much lately). otherwise, i change my components so often that i don't give anything a chance to die on me...

My Tandy 386 system I got of HSN, my very first computer. Bought it in early 1994 I believe. Everything is original and still working. HDD is only 190mb. I boot it up occasionally to run the really old version of Lemmings [oh I love that game!].

Well I don't keep things around very long, the thing I've owned the longest that I'm still using is my Epson Stylus 740 Printer. Everything else got replaced a couple months ago in a MAJOR system upgrade. But I would guess I'll be keeping these components around for a while:

Viewsonic VG151 LCD Monitor
Altec Lansing ADA310 Speakers
Antec SX840 Case
APC Back-UPS Pro USB

bought a USR 33.6 voice modem in 11/96, sent it in to get X2 upgrade, then again for v.90 upgrade... not the same physical component but same $135... (hey that was a damn good price back then)

also have a case for a 386/25 that we bought in 92... comp wasn't used but was working fine until i took apart power supply cuz i needed a fan... and that fan's in my current system so i guess that's my oldest component...
