Mine is this: Life is too short to be an a-hole.
You know right from wrong, and when you do something wrong intentionally, and try to defend or downplay or ignore it, you're being an a-hole. Do you really want to be remembered like that? Nobody is perfect and nobody is asking for perfection, but when you look back at thousands of years of documented human history and see the consequences of wrongdoing (cheating on spouse, stealing, violence), what makes you think you're somehow exempt?
