What is your ideal "career" job.

eg: The field of your chosen profession, what particular company/project/job aspect would you like to work on?

I would like to find a company devoted to the "smart energy grid", particularly dealing with solar and alternative power. I'm a software engineer, so I'd be content doing anything software related for said company... be it UI's, core software, embedded stuff... basically whatever actually dealing with the interaction between energy production/transmission and the control software. Definitely NOT interested in sitting around updating the website or some customer database though.
 
I'd like to be able to test the latest cell phones for a wireless provider. I'm currently in the application process for such a job, hopefully I'll here something soon!
 
I'm a project manager doing third party software implementation in corporate for large (20k+) companies. I'm pretty happy where I am but if I could parallel skip I'd want to project manage the design, rollout and adoption of a web app for my home county, helping them connect the locals and bring in the tourist dollars. Mostly because I want to move back home and there's no industry there so if I wanted to work in anything like what I do now I would need to invent the demand. 🙁

Fund manager. Just mirror the S&P and play golf all day pulling in 7 figures. Probably easiest job on Earth.
 
Using the criteria in the OP, probably something in the food industry, and I may just go and try to do that in not too long. If I knew more about movies and music I think I would try something in that industry, but I don't have any real knowledge there.

Wanted to be USMC Chopper pilot (cobras) but eyesight was bad, my college major changed, and I dropped from ROTC.

Now it would be working for the company I'm with now, Mortenson Construction, as a Superintendent taking part in the construction of nuclear reactors on the East Coast.
 
I'd love to do Phys Therapy and help rehab people but have come to realize I love working in tech (don't ask what I do or I'd have to kill you). Not as social as I'd like, but definitely has its perks (never on call, lots of vacay, instant access to web/email at all times, low stress/drama, hands off management, so many different types of specialization, flexible work hours, rarely have to travel).
 
None. I really detest everything involved in jobs/careers. They get in the way of everything that's good, or matters in life. Maybe they're necessary, but I don't have to like it.

That being said, if I HAVE to do something to make money, I still think teaching is about my best option. I love learning, love argument/debate, love reading and writing, love helping others to learn, etc. If there's a better job for that than teaching I'd love to hear about it.

My wife is a physical therapist. It's a very rewarding career and she always has stories to tell me; some of them are sad, some are happy, and some are bad, but most of them are feel-good stories.

I've never once been able to come home and inspire or uplift her with a story from my line of work.

I just think that at this moment it's the most viable energy source and we should be exploiting it as much as possible instead of squandering money putting up wind farms and solar fields.
 
I want to build awesome robots. I'm starting my Ph.D. at Cornell this fall and will likely wind up working for one of the three guys in the department that build awesome robots.

WHAT???? I am amazed no one has thanked you from the bottom of their heart for helping them see the light when you introduced them to the the world of FIFO and away from the evilness of LIFO. :laugh:

I have uplifting stories from my office everyday. Not a single day goes by where we don't make a positive difference in someones lives. Just yesterday someone ate my frozen Banquet Salisbury Steak, I imagine the remainder of the day they felt full and satisfied (though it may have been the associated GI pain / gas from the frozen flavor disk).
 
I've given this quite a bit of thought, and I think I would like to be a manager at some type of tech/database company. In high school I always wanted to be a systems analyst or work in business intelligence...that's still an option as well.

Otherwise, during the school year I work in the college disabilities center as a tech assistant, and I find it very rewarding to help disabled kids with technology to help them out and researching new applications. Something along those lines would be fun as well.
