I am planning to start using netflix. Of course it is region bound, the selection of movies will differ. Does it have commercial breaks in the movies or just commercials at the begin of the movies ?

I use unblock-us to switch my region, works like a charm. Just finished watching Dr. Strangelove on the US netflix.

How does unblock-us work? I just googled it and it says that it's a VPA but can you get something like chromecast to run using the VPN? Also, is there a way to know what is on different netfix regions?

I just dropped my cable TV this year. I'm watching exclusively streaming and handful of over the air channels. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I've been happy. Not all programming is in HD, and less still is in both HD and 5.1 audio. When it is, it looks and sounds pretty good on my 60" LCD and surround system. Not Blu-Ray quality, but pretty damned good.

The interface is a little hinky. Sometimes it seems like I spend as much time looking for something to watch as actually watching.

Not sure if I understand this the way you meant it to be understood.

You are using VPN to get region-advantage in order to watch Dr. Strangelove. Is it locked because you are in the USA, or are not?

If I just finished watching a series then I hate Netflix. Nothing but boring crappy movies.

... then I usually find a new tv show to watch/ go back through a week or two later; and Netflix goes back to almost being as good as pron.

you just change the DNS server, so you can make it work on pretty much any device.

there really isn't a great way to compare content across regions, I've been thinking about making one.

unblock-us actually isn't a real VPN, it's a little DNS magic where they'll just fool netflix/whatever service into thinking the request came from whatever country without actually tunneling the request to a server in that country (meaning your bandwidth isn't at the mercy of the VPN connection).

I live in Denmark, but I watched the movie on the US netflix.

it is good way to watch older TV shows. I watch BB season 1-4 in two weeks and then watched the final 16 live on AMC. I have also enjoyed orange is the new black and house of cards. I am a fan of older monster movie but they are really hit or miss.

For the price you pay it's well worth it. I still get the one BR out at a time and really enjoy it. Streaming quality is very good and turnaround on hard disks is usually two days.

I have a subscription, but only use it about every other month. 90% of the movies on there suck. Quickly check the RottenTomatoes ratings for the movies - a few good movies, and the rest come in at 10%.

Technically the best streaming platform out there. Content-wise, it would be better if more major producers would play ball, but a lot of them are still being dicks (looking at you, HBObsolete). Even so it's a great entertainment value.

Netflix is more of a competitor to HBO than say Comcast so that shouldn't be surprising.

HBO is making them a competitor, but Reed Hastings would happily have been streaming HBO content for years now, if they weren't obstinately hoping to hang on to the old model. Who turns their nose up at 22 million viewers? HBO, that's who.

For TV series and documentaries, it's awesome. The movie selection is ok, but not spectacular.

Between Netflix, Amazon Prime and OTA reception, we've been off cable for years now.
