I am kind of fond of the 737.
Well, I have racked up a lot of miles in it anyway.
And free tickets becuase of it.

Other than that... the A-10 Warthog is kind of cool

I wonder how many people know this little tidbit of fact.

The first air-to-air kill during Desert Storm... What was it?

F-15 downing a MIG-29? No.

F-16 downing a MIG-23? No.

Actually it was...

MIG-25 downing an F-18.

On the first night of the bombing campaign, a wing of F-15 swept NE from Saudi with orders to engage any Air targets. A MIG-25, probably flying around 60,000 ft, slipped overtop their screen and fired at least two missles. One of the missles intercepted a bomb-laden F-18. The pilot was killed. As to whether the MIG-25 was later shot down, is uncertain.

Though the U.S. didn't initially confirm it, yes that little tidbit is correct.

Datafly,

The F/A-18E/F is still a huge waste of money. It should be downright much better than the F/A-18C/D for how much they cost. Of course the F/A-18E/F is going to have better low speed handling characteristics...it's all computer controlled. Virtually spin proof like I said. Still, the plane is huge...bigger target equals easier to keep track of in ACM. The only reason why I see an F/A-18E/F defeating a F/A-18C/D is due in part to it's better thrust to weight ratio. The F/A-18C/D wasn't exactly a speed demon, but still the thrust to weight ratio of the Super Hornet isn't that much of an improvement.

The Super Hornet might be the Navy's newest jet, but it doesn't do every job the best. While it retains the F/A-18 C/Ds superb A-G capability, reconnaisance as well as intercept missions are better suited towards the F-14D. The F-14D is just hitting it's prime. It has one of the best recon pods in the biz, Active Radar long-range AAMs, and can deliever LGBs and perform CAS well. The navy's trying to replace all their planes with multi-role replacements, but why even make the F/A-18E/F if it's an interim aircraft to the upcoming JSF? Waste of money I tells ya.

We don't need no stinkin Super Hornet. What the Navy needs is the YF-23.

Supergroove,

It was almost the end of the conflict before they acknowledged that fact. First blood went to Iraq... Argh! And when they did acknowldege it, it wasn't broadcast. However, that incident did give impetus to the F-22 program. The F-15 is one of the most capable aircraft in the world, but it just can't fly that high, and it's avionics are starting to get dated. Faced with overhauling the F-15 to get it to be the best plane again, or invest in next generation technology, well, that was a no-brainer.

The MIG-25 is an older design, but for high altitude combat plane, you can't find another one that does it so well.

C5 Galaxy is cool...There were a few other cool planes I saw when at an air show in NJ this summer. You could even hold a lan-party on that plane :p
