If you like online multiplayer RTS, then get ready for Sins of a Solar Empire 1.5 -- the free-standing Rebellion expansion. If you missed this excellent 4x-RTS, Rebellion is your chance to purchase the entire game--the original Sins, the Entrenchment expansion, the Diplomacy expansion, and the upcoming large Rebellion expansion in one single $40 package.

Sins is a unique, deep RTS that focuses on strategy and tactics while doing a great job of keeping micromanagement to a minimum, preventing it from becoming an APM-based clickfest. It's excellent for online multiplayer PvP. Ironclad and Stardock may not have the advertising budget or cachet of Blizzard, but most Starcraft fans would probably love this game.

1. Red Alert 2. It's campy as hell, but so much fun.
Red Alert is good and pseudo realistic but not as much fun as the sequel.
Red Alert 3 does not deserve to be called a Red Alert title, much less a Command and Conquer game.

2. AOE:Rome. Loved Hannibal's scenario.

3. CnC 3. Scrin = Awesome.

Total Annihilation + Core Contingency addon = best RTS ever by a million miles.

"Spring" is quite awesome ... but when I played it, it was just essentially a new engine for Total Annihilation, just with new bugs and some new functionality...

Supreme Commander was good, but, it fell VERY short.

Otherwise I liked original Command and Conquer, played against my uncle a lot... had fun with it

I really liked Age of Mythology a lot when it was released. AOE mechanics and cool mythological figures was a homerun in my book.

Starcraft 1 sucked me into RTS. Im shocked though by the lack of people who recommended Warcraft 3. That game was the most awesome thing in the world to me. Yes, online multi-player was rough... People got insanely good at that game. However, the flexibility of the campaign to the thousands of custom games make Warcraft 3 a must own to me...

If you don't have it, you majorly missed the boat!

I loved Warcraft 3. Both the original and the expansion. Was the campaign, though.

Great characters and story, not to mention the best cinematics in a game for its time.

due to recent addiction, I will have to move Sins of a Solar Empire right up there next to Warcraft 2, for me. The only thing holding it back is lack of campaign. The game is simply superb. The 3 races are tweaked quite masterfully, and playing and learning through each tends to offer a good bit of variety in play style--though I admit that mid-late game it all pretty much boils down to the same tactics for me.

I'm not a multiplayer type person, so I can only imagine that this is much better online. I'm perfectly happy SP right now, though. Such a brilliant game. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to get the hang of it, heh.

ARMA2: Mission: Warfare. FPS RTS. Fantastic, never a dull moment - never repeats, & each game provides a unique experience heavily based on teamwork.

Homeworld: Cataclysm

Homeworld.

One of these days I'll have to try playing it without stealing everything in sight.

It's quite hard if not downright impossible without the Ion Frigate Ball o' Death in the last few levels.

Also, it's very difficult to get past the Beast Cruise Missile level without capturing the Heavy Cruiser in the previous level during Cataclysm.

Great RTS games:

- StarCraft 1&2
- C&C 1&3 (not 2 or 4)
- Red Alert 1&2 (3 was ok)

Some of the Age of Empires games were fun - don't get me wrong - but they weren't great.
