What is your favorite Hawaiian island?

Kauai. It's very green, the snorkling is great, and there are wild chickens everywhere. I must've caught at least twenty baby chickens. There is not another place in the world where you see dense jungle on the trip to Walmart.

Maui is such the Haole cliche!

Live on O`ahu right now (born and raised). It's good for the Tourist trap stuff.

If you want the essence of Hawai`i, then you've got to go to the island of Hawai`i (Big Island), Kauai or Moloka`i. Maui is alright, too, but it's almost as bad as O`ahu now, without the benefits of being where "everything" is.

For scenic beauty, Kauai wins by a landslide. There's nothing more stunning than seeing Polihale beach, Waimea canyon, and the Na Pali coastline all in one day. Maui is good if you like luxury resorts and don't want to leave your compound, otherwise the island has insufficient infrastructure for its population and tourists, sort of reminds me where Honolulu was in the 1950s. Big Island is great for volcanic activities, so much to do, but the island is rather anti-climatic in beauty since it's so new (the youngest in the chain). Oahu is best for actual residential living, shopping, dining, city life, etc, though many natural beauty prizes can be found on Oahu, just takes some extra research to locate.

Ha... I thought of putting that on the list but since nobody is allowed to go there... I also thought about putting Niihau as a choice too but since it's basically a privately owned nature perserve nobody goes there for vacation either.

And thanks to everyone who gave detailed descriptions of Kauai. I think I'm headed there next.

You can go there... but only in small groups and there is live ordinance so you have to be really careful :Q I get invited every so often and I've had a few friends go.

ive been to Maui and the big island.

the big island seems just like ANY other city... it wasnt nearly as great as Maui was.

Which one has Pearl Harbor? The closest I have been to Hawaii is San Diego. Anything I know about it comes from WWII movies or "Hawaii Five O". 😱

uuhm... then i think you are talking about the island of oahu and the city of honolulu? no?!
The BI is nothing like any other city.

My favorite is the one I own and live on with 4 native speaking women in their 20's wearing nothing but a necklace of flowers.

I've been to the Big Island, and I've lived on Oahu for a couple of years, while my dad was stationed there. Out of those two, I would say the Big Island was the better of the two.

I have a friend who is in my office building. He and his wife own a condo on Maui. They go to Hawaii for one month every year. I keep hoping they will offer to allow me to visit.
