I'm thinking about getting new hard drives so I just want to hear from everyone what they think about there favorite drives. So far I was getting really into seagate but then someone told me about the maxtor diamond plus 9 series (which I have 3 of) can be muffled down by there loud seeking sound. Just dl the utility and make it quiet. I just don't know how quiet they get. But there performance is still faster then the seagates from what I hear. So right now my favorite would be the Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 Series (thinking about getting 4 120gb 8mb cache ata/133 7200 rpm drives). So what are other poeple's opinions. Thanks and I hope to hear from a lot.

Hitachi 7k250
waiting for mine in the mail
www.storagereview.com is the most respected hard drive site on the net
they rank it the number one for 7200 drives.
same price as competing drives, faster, quiet...

Used to be WD but their bearings went crazy on me. Maxtor DM 9+ replaced it and now it's used as a backup drive. I'm on a Hitachi 7K250 and loving it every moment. :)

Western Digital all the way, they are pretty reliable. I don?t care if my hard drive sings opera music to me as long as they are somewhat reliable.

Okay so I got a whole lot of posts, well not that many but still it's good. I'm almost close to my Decision. Right now I am in cross between either getting

4 Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 Series 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Hard Drives
or
4 Western Digital Special Edition 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Hard Drives
or
4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus 120GB 7200RPM 8MG Cache Hard Drives

I think I'm going to Post one more thread on what to choose out of the three. I hear a lot of different stuff from a lot of poeple. But I really want to hear something from someone that either has used all 3 or has all 3. Thanks for the posts.

I don't have 4 drives of each brand but I have the Maxtor and WD you're looking at. The Maxtor seeks pretty loud but other than that, it's a pretty good drive. Meanwhile, the WD I had, has busted bearings and whines like a mofo. All my other friends that bought around the same time as I did had the same problem too.

Ive always had Wd drives, never had one die on me yet. I know others have had problems, but I still recomend WD.

Had my 80 gig Spec Ed WD for over a year now I think..... my dad has 2 x 120 Gb WD SE's and they dont disappoint in performance terms. None have decided to whine yet.

I've had two WD's die on me, plus their loud. Decided to give Seagate a chance and will never go back. They are silent, but couldn't tell you about reliability 'cause I've only had it for a few months now.

I am currently using all 3 drives, have had a few WD go bad, but i still almost always buy the wd with 3y warranties due to the warranty. I would go with the cheapest of the three, have been pleased with all 3.
