I love the guitar work in "She Sells Sanctuary" by the Cult.

Plus, Billy Gibbons plays a mean guitar too.

I've seen Satch in concert 5 times and met him once back-stage to chat for about 20-miuntes. Very interesting guy.

Other than perhaps Jimmi Hendrix, there are no guitar players in this thread within a light year of Joe Satriani. The guy is simply too technical to bother with cheezy rifts, and he's given lessons to a few individuals mentioned in this thread.

Journey sucks and always has since about 1980. Their first couple of albums are the only ones that actually rocked.

Neal Schon is a very talented guitarist, who unfortunatley stuck with a band that turned 'ballad rock' to make the top 40 and buy Steve Perry lots of shampoo.

I saw Journey play a fair back in about 1999, and the best part of the concert was when Schon played some of his own solo work while the rest of the band was off stage.

My favorite: Petrucci's solo in "Stream of Conciousness" by Dream Theater on "Live at Budokan."

Eric Clapton: live (1967) recording version, (with Jack Bruce on bass guitar) of "Spoonfull" (Cream: "Wheels of Fire" album).
 
Rhapsody - Land of Immortals has a great solo...flows great with the keyboard too.

Nightwish - She is My Sin has a really short and simple solo but I love how it sounds.
 
I gotta add my nod to all the mentions of Pink Floyd in here. While waters and gilmore got boring in their old age, when they were together Floyd was one of the best innovative and downright best produced bands ever.
