What is your favorite defragging program?

I have Diskeeper. It doesn't optimize your drive like other products.....it simply gets rid of fragmented files. So I would think there are better ones out there.

Currently I am using Diskeeper 9 Pro ... DK10 & 11 may be too bloated for me
and I do not need the extra new features yet, like for raid arrays

A cheapskate like me likes the freebies----I have been using dklite--but it does not defrag in the background.

I have tried dims but its a registration nighmare.---I am now playing around with the iobit smart defrag beta which at least defrags in the background---but as a beta has a few bugs---the main one being it can screw up windows shutdown--which is easily cured with a mouseclick--just right click its icon on the taskbar---select exit--and then shut down windows.---but iobit
is working hard to get it right---with new versions coming out almost monthly.---and they are talking an implementation of hyperfetch for win XP.------so try at your own risk.

Lately I've been using

Power Defragmenter

which is free.

It offers several settings, including the "Power" setting, which is 2-pass.

First it runs Contig, and second it runs the Windows built-in defrager.

Does a real good job.

That's my choice - have used both - PerfectDisk 8.0 is the best ever. A multiplicity of Editor's Choice awards.

I'm not being cyincal, I'm being realistic. I've done the tests to prove that fragmentation of a file has negligable affects on the performance of reading that file. And since most files aren't read in large sequential chunks fragmentation would have even less of an affect on read performance. I've yet to see someone provide real evidence that actions like defragging or cleaning your registry have an appreciable affect on peformance under normal use.
