My favorite was "No blood for oil!!!"

Exactly how much oil has been extracted from Iraq to the USA to date?

I like the one where Bush was pretending to look for the missing WMDs under his desk while soldiers in Iraq were under fire and dying....

I liked the people who were convinced that Bush had Osama hidden away and was going to "capture" him in October for a boost in the polls.

There was some truth to that, except they discovered the man they had locked up wasn't Osama, but Cat Stevens....

\good work, George!

The best has to be that 9/11 was an insider job, a controlled demolition by Bush/Cheney and a few cronies. The Pentagon was struck by a US missile and four plane loads of civilians are being held in some foreign prison.

I would like to add the "progressives" mocking of the "mission accomplished" banner.

While it was probably not the best idea, the banner and stunt around that was to mark the end of *major* (tanks/missiles/bombing/ect) military operations in Iraq, something that ended rather quickly.

I didn't know 4% was a lot....

In any event, what does the fact that USA is importing (a small amount of) oil from Iraq have to do with the fact that "progressives" were chanting "no blood for oil" inferring that the military operation(s) in Iraq were solely for oil.

Can you show me how you came up with the 4%
The invasion started in 2003, so I need the numbers up till and including the figures I've show 09
And then compare these to the numbers from say 2000, pre invasion

The numbers your posted had Iraq at 4% (sum up all of the countries then take Iraq's contribution and divide by the sum)

In any event:

As you can see, the USA is still well below pre war import levels.

Note: food-for-oil program started in 1996 (enacted in 1995) and was terminated in 2003

Not to go too far OT but the food-for-oil program was run by the UN and the corruption in the program was on the UN side.

Not to say the US is not a major player in anything UN

It does look like US companies were involved
NEW YORK — A Virginia oil trading company has pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the United Nations (search) oil-for-food scandal, prosecutors said Thursday.

But right you are, back on topic

And Patranus comes and repeats the spin after the fact. Perhaps he'd like to show how Bush's speech talked about how the big part of the war was yet to come - something he won't find, because it caught the administration by surprise, after its terrible post-war planning where it ignored the advice of the informed people, like the detailed post-war plan from the State Department that was trashed, as Bush was wroingly declaring a larger victory.

We could also mention the level of deceipt - the men on a very long deployment delayed getting home for a campaign photo taking operation, as the carrier was ordered to drive in cricles just far enough offshore from San Diego to not see the buildings, to pretend that it was much closer to Iraq - with the White House telling yet another lie that Bush landing on a plane wasn't for the photos, but because of the distant location of the ship.

The role of oil interests as a MOTIVE for the invasion is not changed because the plans did not work out.

I won't bother with a longer explanation but a few points to note are Cheney's energy task force, secret except for some FOIA released pages from their meetings showing maps of Iraqi oil fields, ongoing issues with oil strategy in the region, the only Iraqi building protected by US military in the invasion aftermath being the oil ministry, the plan for Chalabi to be a US puppet for oil policy and when that didn't work out, becoming the oil minister, and many radical right-wing policies that had been planned but fell through.

I'll go with ignoring General Shinseki's recommendations on troop levels before the Iraq war.
