What is your favorite American patriotic song? Mine is God bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood.

I'm sure I forgot some so let me know.

I voted for the SSB, b/c it is the Anthem.

But, if you didn't include the SSB, it would be lee Greenwood

Yea, that makes since. But the SSB for some reason dosen't touch me like God bless the U.S.A.

I heard some songs that were going into to an Australian national anthem competition. Some of the names were "Beer, Football", "Fvck off" and "What the fvck does Girt Mean?" All of which sounded better than the current anthem. 😉

Oz... Gotta love that country 🙂!

Geez thanks Nemesis77,

Hehe, the "What the fvck does Girt Mean?" comes from the line in the current anthem "We are girt by sea." Nobody knows what "girt" means, but we get the general drift. So we take the piss out of it! 😀

I just hope that Finland would change it's national anthem. "Finlandia" would be cool, but that situation in Oz got me thinking... Maybe something along the lines of "Get your russian arse out of here!" 😀.

I voted for God Bless America which was written by Israel Isidore Baline,
a Russian immigrant.

You know him as Irving Berlin.

I voted for the Star Spangled Banner, but my absolute favorite is the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Amazing song. Always makes me a little teary (or bawl, depending on the time of the month).

Its in there now.

Gak! I am the only one so far to vote for the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Until my first year in highschool 1971, Dixie was the school fight song. This was in Lee County Florida. The band played a very kickbutt version, they used to rehearse it more than any other. It was banned that year or the next. That was when our schools intergrated. It was deemed inappropriate and inflammatory. I have to agree, but it was the most energizing piece I think I have heard before or since. Now, like the confederate flag, Dixie belongs in the museum and nowhere else. 🙁

I've always liked 'God Save the King' but... oh, wait... I bet you meant American patriotic songs, didn't you? 🙂

I am not a very religious person, but my favorite is Battle Hymn of the republic. I feel so proud and strong when i hear that song. I also love The star spangled Banner. I like the story behind that one.
