Actually, come to think of it...

it's one of Jacky Chan's worst movies, but the movie "Gorgeous" has one of the best fight scenes (and funniest at times) at the end that I've ever seen.

just to add to the list of very good action scenes

Lock stock and two smoking barrels, the scene when the black gang goes and the other gang clash in the wrong place :)

I HAVE to say the opening scene in Saving Privatey Ryan. Since I first saw that scene, it has been my favorite by far. Just the realism in it, and the film making, and the sounds, and just everything about it ... even how much more scared it made me of war. From the first whistle blow and the whole boat getting killed, to the guy putting the dirt in his metal tin. That scene just does something for me, especially on the 5.1 setup.

After that comes the lobby scene in the matrix, the first big battle in the colloesum in Gladiator, the shower scene in The Rock ("STAND DOWN" " I CANNOT GIVE THAT ORDER!"), terminator 2 when he is in the office building all the way to the end, The Patriot when he saves his son. I am sure there are others that I love, but again, NOTHING beats the saving private ryan opening!

Actually it is a hallmark of every John Woo movie to have the hero/anti-hero use two .45s in at least one scene. In Hard Boiled, Chow Yung Fat sliding down the bannister railing, shooting the bad guys with two .45s also comes to mind.

However, the best action scene for me is the opening scene to Leon (USA "The Professional"). Also, Gary Oldman busting in to Natalie Portman's parent's apartment and killing everybody there. While Bethoven plays in Oldman's mind.

First epic battle in Braveheart.

Omaha Beach landing in Saving Private Ryan.

The final scene in The Professional, especially when Jean whats-his-face hides above the front door of the apartment, the swat team moves in, when they pass through he closes the door and gets them from behind. Good movie, must see.

Any action scene with Jackie Chan is awesome.

The ending scene in the Way of the Gun ranks up there for me. The realism in it compared to other flicks is outstanding. Good and bad guys missing like crazy (emptying a whole clip of a 9mm without hitting anyone).

Most action sequences tend to forget that people miss more than hit, reloading, recoil, etc... Of course war films like Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down are excellent exceptions to the rule.

The scene at the end when Leon kills many many people and Oldman says "Bring me everyone..." Flunky - "Everyone?" Oldman screams - "EV-REE-ONE!!!"

What no Aliens? , Bill Paxton asking - "Are you ready to GET IT ON?" Ripley battling the whole fuxin hive then busting ass on the Queen?

Matrix lobby or Neo fighting Morpheus in the dojo also...

1.) Lord of the Ring - When Gandalf battled the Balrog on the bridge

2.) The Professional - The entire end of the movie when the assassin battled the swat team up to the point where he blew himself up.

3.) Braveheart - Too many good scenes.

4.) Enemy of the State - The shootout at the end was too cool

Yeah, that's the scene I was talking about. And at the finale, when Oldman shoots Leon in the back, then crouches down on him, Leon opens his hand which holds the pin of a grenade and says "This is for Matilda"...BLAAMMMMM!

Too choreographed, IMO.

Knowing that Jackie does all of his stunts and with little or no safety devices makes it more exciting.

Here goes (not in particular order):

Omaha Beach in SPR
Lobby in The Matrix
Massive soviet attack in The Winter War
Final shootout in The Wild Bunch
Car-chase in Ronin
Three-way shoot-out in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (not much action, but it rules!)
Big bug-battle in Starship Troopers
Final battle in Last of The Mohicans

That's all I can think of now.

The car chase scene in Ronin has got to be one of the best ever.
Also, the end of the car chase in peacemaker

The Normandy Landing in Saving Private Ryan & the trench battle scene in Legends of the Fall are great ... but make me sick to my stomach to think that they are real.

I like pretty much any Jackie Chan movie for some reason.

As far as particular action movie scenes ... hmm...

Saving Private Ryan was a good movie, I think my favorite scene in the whole movie was toward the end when Captain Miller is wounded and the tank is coming after him and he starts shooting it with his pistol. Just a reflection on the American spirit, never give up.

Enter the Dragon has probably the most realistic fighting scenes of any movie, probably because some of them were real fights. Lots of good scenes, Bruce Lee at his finest.

I also liked the scene in Die Hard 2 when he uses the rocket propelled ejection seat out of a C-130 cargo plane. But that was funny for another reason. :)
