They make this stuff called Christian Brother's Brandy. 10 dollars a bottle, fairly smooth. Good liquor to get drunk on - you can put 6 or 7 shots in a cup of coke and its still drinkable. Oh god, though, this one time I killed a bottle by just chugging what was left - I felt fine for about 5 minutes and then I felt like crap for about a half hour while my guts tried to sort things out.

Brandy isn't really a whiskey though?

I  Laphroaig.

+1

10 year with a splash of water is about the only time I drink liquor anymore.

A buddy of mine got his hands on 30yr bottle and got me hooked. I think that stuff is expensive and it took me some time to get used to the taste (even the 10 yr old was too "flavorful" for me at first) but this stuff grows on you 🙂

I usually drink either Wild Turkey or Makers Mark and sometimes Knob Creek, I'm not a fan of Mixes, Scotch or Irish whiskeys.

Ditto on the wild turkey/maker's mark. Then again, we usually (for whatever reason) just end up doing shots anyway, so the brand doesn't matter so much...majority of the time it ends up being crown, which isn't bad considering it's easily chased with coke.

FYI - keeping it in the barrel isn't necessarily a good idea.

This is where more is not better.

beware the "age game" and taste the whiskey.

Not really a whiskey at all.

I reach for the Laphroaig when I want a rich, peaty, scotch with a nice medicinal flavor. However, my favorites are

Edradour

which can be tough to find outside of Scotland and

Springbank

though I enjoy many other single malts. My collection is small but growing!

Slanj!
