I think a cross genre MMO that would allow you to see a variety of things. It would be a space game so you would have an EVE like game and if you went to a planet there would be all sorts of things like Zombie worlds where you would journey into major metropolis zones infested with zombies from a 'insert whatever story for that planet' and you could engage the area in hellgate style game but you could also land mechs and totally go nuts and destroy the city.

You would be able to dent the environment in a persistant mannor. Say if two warring factions are warring over said zombie world from space ( lets say it has resources to build a juggernaut ship ( like a titan in EVE ) you could mech it out. If you destroy a huge amount of the city with mechs you will have to land engineering crews ( which forces you to the ground game w.o mechs ) and have to deal with zombies that way.

Up in space territory control would be just as important as it is in EVE. Huge fleet battles. But the piloting would be more like Tie Fighter for smaller ships while the larger ships like dreadnoughts would be more like Fleet Commander. Because of the dual purpose mechanics... you would be able to teraform planets that are unihabited and create land outposts that would be more like town in SWG and explore the ground game of that planet like WoW. The game would play out like a FireFly episode if that is the way you chose to play the game.

Species you meet would be just as diverse in this game as an episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9. Problem with my idea is that there isn't enough computers and content creators on the planet to make something like this happen.

I want to see a true sequel to the X-Wing series. Using modern technology, they could make the game a lot faster and more intense, not to mention visually stunning. Improved AI and significantly more ships at once would be good additions as well.

And I'd want it to be DEEP. As deep as the old games were trying to be, but this time enhanced because of the huge amount of processing power available to new computers. I want energy management, realistic damage (so getting hit on the wing would take out one of your laser cannons, or getting hit in the engine would slow you down or send you into a spin), the ability to dock with a carrier ship to rearm and repair, that sort of thing. Basically, take the graphics and scale of Rogue Leader, update them to be in line with today's computers, and combine that with the intricacies of X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

Finally, it would have to be set in the original series. I guess it would be acceptable to have it span both trilogies, but if I can't fly around in an X-Wing or a TIE Interceptor, I'd be pissed.

Not that this will ever happen, nevermind how many people miss the series and would buy a new one in a heartbeat.

LMAO, when I read the title, i opened this thread only to say Tie Figher and X-Wing...but you beat me to it! LOL, unreal

Can you imagine how cool that game would be. I play X3 and we've got scripters that make all the star wars ships for us, but the universe is lacking that dark, damning force feeling :)

Same here. I'm dying to see X-Wing vs. Tie Figher again, but with a newer engine, new sequels, wow, just wow. Its amazing no one has yet done this, think of the insane amount of $$$$$ this would generate.

Mechwarrior 5 is long overdue, and is likely to never be made. Its a shame since Mechwarrior was an AMAZING series of games, and seeing ultra-detailed Mechs stomping around Crysis-like environments would be a total blast!
Also, I would love to see a new F1 sim for the PC.

Oh, crap, I forgot to add that to my list.

We need another heavy mech game. I rented a couple of 360 titles that tried but they fell way short.

A free to play MMORPG that has some element that maintains a low and mid level game rather than just constantly pushing the level cap up and adding more high lvl crap.

I played eq @ release and had a blast (when the servers were up and not @ <500ping to everyone) exploring and learning things about the game. Went back ~5 yrs later and every single low-mid level zone was dead... except the "hot" zones... which were filled... with high level chars PLing their alts. Everyone knew where the best exp and loot was. Everyone knew what ever creature was capable of. Etc etc etc. It was work for the players, not fun. I'd want a game that is so good at low and mid levels people (other than myself) would actually PREFER to play there. As it is, the games suck so bad the only reason to play is to get gear and thereby become more ooober... so everyone plays high level stuff because the best gear is there. Oh yah, and make characters actually customizable... rather than there being a Right way to make every char type and a best set of gear for every character type.

Oh, but even I know such a game would fail miserably. People don't want fun anymore... they want ooberleetgear!

A new Ultima to replace the god awful Ultima 9 released in '99. Terrible way to end an epic series.
Diablo 3
KOTOR 3
Unreal Tournament 99 remade with 2009 graphics.

A good quality RPG with NO voice acting, and using all of the PS3/360's power to render 2D sprites...no polygonal stuff...just wickedly smooth hand drawn animation during the fights, etc

They tried that a couple times on the PS1 and it didnt work. There were a few games rendered entirely or almost entirely in 2D and they didnt sell that great. I think once people got a taste for the 3D they didnt want to go back. The good news is you still have hope.
They've redone most of the Final Fantasies for Playstation and now the Gameboy Advance and Sony PSP. Classic 2D games with modern graphics. The only problem is they changed the balance.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 1 on the Advance and its a LOT easier than I remember. They made it so the thief gets multiple attacks as early as level 1, the black belt doesnt get wasted by magic damage as easily, and the mages can cast spells more frequently thanks to an MP system for the spells.
You also need fewer XP's to level up and everything in the game is cheaper.
Its like they took away most of the fun by reducing the challenge. They did add 4 new elemental caves with tough enemies and super tough bosses.

I've noticed something of a common factor in our requests.
Everything we want is possible and in some cases has already been done. But the game designers dont seem to wanna design these games because they can make easier money pumping out simple games for the consoles. Their only selling point is the graphics and (sometimes) the physics.

The game I really want to play that doesn't exist would be very similar to Rome Total War but have a lord of the rings type theme(mythology/D&D etc).
No the lord of the rings games didn't cut it. They used the total war engine but were more like Age Of Empires than Total War. What I'm picturing is tens or even hundreds of thousands of Orcs, Dwarves with Axes, Elves with bows, specialty Units like Wizards that have numerous types of magic at their disposal and fire breathing dragons flying overhead. Add some Cave Trollers, Warg riders & giant Eagles to the mix with complete strategic control over every unit and you've got yourself one heck of a game.

While I'm on the subject one other thing I'd like to see in a game (an oblivion style game) would be a map large enough that the world was actually a globe. A complete world. Nowadays this would be as simple as making a map 10x the size of Oblivion.

So what do you think is missing from gaming today and/or what game would you like to see created?

It's not all you're looking for, but there's an amazingly detailed mod of Total War at www.twcenter.net set in Middle Earth....

I think they can make 900 more UT games, and all of them look and play exactly the same :)

(A few years ago it was great...but you can forget it now)
It was a multiplayer mod/hack allowing playing online in Vice City...even if the graphics were dated i was *addicted* to it...neer had so much fun in any game.

The 80s flair in VC and then ganging against other players was awesome, but the mod had many bugs.

Now, they "enhanced" MTA and basically totally screwed it up...i am occasionally checking on progress....but for some bizarre reason they changed it to a lame racing-game...and people are waiting for the DM mod for GTA/Andreas for 3-4 years already.

Anotehr one to add:

A space MMORPG simulation, i never played any of the existing ones, so i dont know. But it should contain trade and fighting and whatever.

Or you can just hire poor people to do it. That seems to work both in game and out.

The anticipation is much greater than the actual game. Remember everyone was like "omg you know what would be cool? Doom 3." Now you've played it and it was good but nowhere near as great as the anticipation.

I'll just make it simple by throwing some things together and using a percentage of importance.

Oblivion like game where you are allowed to do anything you want from the get go and make your character look the way you want it to. You also have a place to call home/base/fortress/etc. - 30%
Make it modern / Sci-Fi world - 10%
Allow your character to develop meaningful relationships with NPCs that actually grow along with you and unlock events, quests, missions, etc. Available NPC's randomized every time you start a new game. (Choose your love interest, your friends, your enemies, etc) - 30%
Level based experience system, customizable stats, no set classes. Equipment is randomly generated with attributes similar to Diablo series. - 20%
Engine is easily moddable by the general public, easy to install, easy to use - 10%

Pretty much it. To this day Morrowind/Oblivion have been my favorite games, but that's only due to the massive loads of user created content. Vanilla by itself, the games hold little interest for me. With that out of the way, the above would make a game for me personally more addicting than crack, heroin, tobacco and internet porn rolled into a needle I could shoot into my wrist.

a game about the Bermuda triangle with a nice alien abduction station underwater where they perform experiments would be nice, you would either have to assault the place or escape from it

A fighting game like tekken, except there are no predetermined frames of animation. All animation is controlled by the physics engine.
The problem with that is figuring out how the player is supposed to control the character. If you want realtime fighting and a tempo anywhere in the ballpark of Tekken, you simply can't give total control of a character to the player using standard (mouse, kb, stick, pad, wiistick) peripherals. Inputs need to be simple and limited. Check out Toribash and you'll have a good idea of what is keeping your dream game from being made.

I'm not saying the player would have full control of the fighter's body. It would have to partially be controlled by an AI. I checked out the trailer for Toribash and it looks pretty cool. I'm gonna try it out when I get home from work.
