1968 Dodge Chargers - thanks, Jamie Kittrell and Ron Hansen

The restyling of the 1968 Dodge Charger is unquestionably the main reason for its sales success, since the 440 Magnum and Hemi were already available in 1967, and sales were dismal. The new "Coke bottle" look made the Charger one of the best-looking muscle cars, period, with many considering it the best-looking performance car of the 1960s. The base drivetrain remained identical with the 318 on the bottom end.

The model line up expanded to include the Charger R/T, equipped like the Coronet R/T - it came with a 440 Magnum, heavy duty suspension and brakes, and the bulletproof Torqueflite 727 3 speed auto with a 4 speed manual optional. The rear bumblebee stripes were a deletable option. Hemi sales went up to 467, still quite small.

Dodge was understably torn between the usual annual styling changes and not wanting to mess with a good thing; they made minor changes to the grille as a compromise. The 1968 has a chrome bumper under the grille, the 1969 has a chrome center divider in the grille, and the 1970 has a rectangular chrome bumper around the grille.

Yes, it was at Galpin, actually! My dad's a regular customer there. I was there when Jay Leno came to pick up his new Ford GT40. That place is hopping with celebrities. And to those who think the Jennifer Tilly bit was fiction, if it makes you feel better to think that, then go ahead. But when you go to buy an exotic car someday you'll understand that it's an entirely different culture. Someone buying such a car doesn't really CARE who used to own it, because the purchaser is usually a big name themselves. Previous owners are usually revealed as a trivia piece, not as a selling point.

So igowerf, when you were there, was Joe Van de Meere around? He's the guy who's been working with my dad for the past few years. Have you seen the new Aston showroom there? It's actually more of a "club" room, only accessible by Aston owners and propsective purchasers accompanied by a salesman. They've got this solid obsidian slate turntable right in the middle... it's really something in there. How about another salesman who went by Kaz? He sold my dad a few and he's always very accommodating.

I worked on Galpin's site from the Internet Sales Department so I didn't talk to the sales people too often. Those names sound very familiar though so I probably did see them around.

I got a Mazda3 at Galpin about 2 months ago and the salesman told me about the awesome Aston Martin room, but I didn't get to see it. He told me that the room has a big rotating platform along with two couches, 3 plasma screen TV's, and an open bar so you can comfortably look at your new car while you work out the transaction. Galpin has always been great about customer service.

Yup, that's an accurate description. But they also have a very ornate fireplace by the couches, and the cocktail table has all kinds of Aston Martin books and literature for your perusal. Recessed within the walls are display boxes that showcase Aston Martin watches, jewelry, pen sets, and other merchandise. THere's skylighting along the top edges of the back walls and the styling in general is very modernistic with exotic hardwoods, multi-colored carpet, angled surfaces... next time you're there, just ask the guys upstairs if you can have a look-see. I'm sure they'll be okay with it.

Man, I got to drop by. Sounds awesome.

E55 AMG Wagon. Wasteful AND practical!

g'aH!!! i Hope that doesn't came with the same garbage-of-an-engine supercharged 5.5L V8. that the E55 sedan had. *shudders* Well hopefully since 2003 they've worked out that $*#&% canary chirp whenever you pounce on the gas pedal. And the gawd-awful transmission clunks. And the gremlins that prevented the hands-free phone kit from working. And the ones that made the car turn off spontaneously when you're just sitting at a red light. And the chronic "pulls-to-the-right" alignment issue that plagued plenty of the E55's from 2003-4.

But I do give them kudos for an... interesting... design... I guess?

OooOh, you're right... it does look similar! Can't say I'm certain, however, based on that angle 🙂
