What is your definition of a friend?

People, I know we all have friends... to an extent. I would like to know what this word means to you. For me, a friend is someone I feel I can trust. Not only this though, I have this weird feeling, where I really enjoy their company. Regardless of what we do, we have fun no matter what. When tragedy or some type of problem(s) arise, the person is there and is willing to spend their time to help you. To me though, it seems a lot of people seem to use the word "friend" rather loosely. Some people walk around and call EVERYBODY their friend, while others carefully choose who their friends are.

I would also like everybody to specify if they have a lot of friends, or just a few.

For me, I have very few friends. I was once absorbed into a large group of people who for a while I thought were my friends, but in reality, they were only a bunch of people looking to have fun. So now I'm cautious about who I want to call my friend and if I do become friends with them, do they have some type of motive to become my friend. (example: stealing my stuff. wanting crap from me. wanting favors.)

A friend is someone you call to help you move.
A best friend is someone you call to help you move... a body.

Music

I have got a lot of e-mails from people asking where the song I used on the page is from. To make things easier, and so that to composer makes a bit of money from me using it, you can buy the CD with the song below for under $15 (cheapest I could find). The CD has a lot of other really good songs like the one I used.

To buy, click here:

When I was younger I thought I had friends. Now as I am older I find that I ony have one or two people that I consider friends. I know quite a few people, but I don't really know them as friends.

I think a persons prsonality type might have some influence on how many friends they have since some people are introverted and others are extroverted. I figure someone is a friend when I can be myself around them and they don't require to much from me as far as money etc..

SAY IT! SAY YOU HAVE FRIENDS!

Ok, I'll admit it. I don't have much friends. All I do is sit here and sulk in my sadness and wait until the day passes by.

Four friends, two close friends, one not fitting the category yet, and one fitting many more.
Closest - Matt. Overall good guy, came out of the closet recently, has confidence issues.
2nd - Chris. Manic depressive, creative as anyone can be, always binging on something (best when it's TV, movies, music or literature, rather than substances)
3rd - Mandy. Sister of above Matt. Not quite ordinary, and a bit much pent up sexual energy. Great snd slightly warped wit. Needs the patented Chris & Ernie's Musical Exposure Sessions?, as she's still as sheltered in music as Matt once was (as in, he hadn't heard Stairway before, and he was 17!).
4th - Thomas. Stoner. Learning to play the digerido(sp!), and getting WAN certs. Metabolism problems, ADD, tourett's(sp), and probably some other stuff. Generally less outgoing than even me, but closer to the norm based on circumstances. I think he's on the virge of moving out (he's almost 18 now) and changing himself completely.
5th - Craig, AKA Dr. A. One of those guys that just has his sh!t together. Practically a second father to me.
6th - Glen. Need to meet him in person one of these days...and it may be soon, as I've only had one real bad day since I started my non-prefab foods diet.

IMO, friends are those people you have some empathy with, and can share your life with, but still keep enough distance for their every action and mood swing to not get to you (that'd be reserved for very close family and SOs), and who'll do the same for (or to, in some cases:)) you.

I have one.

Your computer doesn't count.:)
damn. I wasn't referring to my computer actually but are you sure it doesn't count? two friends sounds like twice as much fun.

EDIT: and there is a group of people that I hang out with occasionally but that's not what he's talking about.
