I agree, it has gotten really bad how this generation looks to aim itself at "remastered" and streamed rehashes of games. I can't help but wonder what kind of quality IP could be getting passed on when Capcom's busy with a re-release of DmC: Devil May Cry (which I wouldn't even think many are dying for), and SE is pushing out Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs re-releases (the former of which was re-released inside of a year of its initial launch). Then, Microsoft's Arcadia (if it comes to fruition) and Sony's PSNow (if the pricing gets reasonable) look to push out more money off of little-to-no R&D for those games (though developing the streaming tech is its own cost). It'll certainly be worth looking at how the generation progresses; will we get good, new IP like always, or will sequels, remasters, and streaming eat into the original content we hope to get with each new generation?

I vote for Mario Kart 8 as GOTY 2014. It was an extremely polished game, taking most of what worked well in previous Mario Kart games and merging it with some more F-Zero like track design elements. I think it worked out great, and was a lot of fun.

Honorable mention to Dragon Age Inquisition (I have the PS4 version). It's been a solid game so far... but admittedly, I wish it was more like Origins in some aspects.

Dark Souls 2 is up there, even if I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous entries in the series.

Fifa 15 would be pretty high up on my list, but I know everyone hates EA and thinks sports games are just updated rosters for $60...

I REALLY enjoyed Mario Kart 8, and the Wii U in general. Lots of people had a TON of bad things to say about it, but I got one for my cousin this holiday season, and I've had more fun on it than other consoles I've owned.
