What is your company's mileage reimbursement rate?

Friend's company was funny, they'll only do .46 cent per mile w/o gas.. when he had ask for a 25 dollar gas reimbursement, they said no

So next conference he had to go to, he rented a sub-urban and wasted like 300 dollar in gas and they were fine with that.. but not 25 on his little 4 cylinder car

The standard IRS rate is $0.505 / mile. That amount includes fuel costs as well as wear and tear.

i know that.....

but my last company was not only more than the irs rate, they also reimbursed gas.

IIRC, anything above the IRS rate is considered taxable income. I assume they were withholding taxes on everything above 50.5 cents/mile. If not, prepare to bend over if you ever get audited. When you accept the standard IRS rate, you also agree not to itemize your expenses on your taxes, so if you drive a big SUV for work year-round, you may be better off not taking the mileage from your company and itemizing instead, because you'll spend more than the reimbursement.

.40c/mile.

no one drives there own car though, cuz the company i work for is more than happy to get you a rental for any business trip. Kind of the same as above. I don't get it either.

Why would they pay the IRS rate and reimburse you on the gas? The tax writeoff is supposed to cover gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.

We have our own fleet and our own gas pumps...

When driving any of the fleet cars we simply use the attached gas card. Same thing when I travel. If I know I'm going to be renting a car in advance, I'll get a dept gas card and take it with me to save on reimbursement. I rarely do more than drive my car to and from work. Paperwork for that stuff proves to be time consuming.

Standard IRS .505 if we have to use our own vehicles, but they'd much rather I check out a fleet unit. I would do so, but the only vehicles they've got for us are Chrysler minivans and Dodge Calibers 🙁
