What is your barebones survival kit?

You are going to spend a week in the woods. What do you bring with you other than the clothes on your back?

As a point of reference, Boulder Outdoor Survival School allows the following items on their field courses:

a blanket, a poncho, a knife, a compass, some additional clothing, and a water bottle or two.

Watches, flashlights, tents, stoves, sleeping bags, and backpacks are not permitted.

If you are wondering how to carry everything, the BOSS way" is to wrap in up in your blanket and make straps out of a length of seatbelt webbing.

How minimalist can you reasonably get? Assume a minimal diet of oatmeal and lentils is provided.

For myself, I would take the BOSS list and add a magnesium firestarter to it - screw rubbing two sticks together... I'd also bring some fishhooks and line.

Barebones? I guess Id take my buck knife with holster. My pocket knife, my surefire, spare surefire batteries, and my wind proof lighter + lighter fluid.

I like the train of thought, but is that enough for a week?

24 beers and a handle of Jack? For one person? I'd hope to god that lasts a week 😛

If I was alone in the woods with a case of beer it would last 3 days if I nursed it... As for the Jack, once you get a few slugs in, you'd be surprised how fast it would disappear.

I honetsly only need a really good knife and some flint.

Don't really need the flint, just makes it easier. Some twine would be nice.

A computer with highspeed internet. But to be a bit more minimalistic the computer will have 1gb ram, a single core cpu, and a 6800gt. I will definitely need an LCD monitor for portability.

you want a big tarp, about 100ft roll of 550 chord, hatchet, 50ft of fishing line and a pack of 10 hooks. Be livin large and in charge with all that gear!

What I packed would vary widely depending on where I was spending that week, i.e., the woods with mild weather, the desert, the plains, near water or not, etc. What time of year? Cold, hot, rainy, dry, snowy?

I've taken several Escape and Evasion courses when I was in the Army. It's not hard if you're equipped with a little knowledge.

two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls

"*looks around when the week was over*.......It's been a week already?"

laptop, sprint vision card, 36 extra batteries

3 boxes of twinkies and 15 cases of Mt Dew

and a bag of beef jerkey

that should work

Okay, since it's hypothetical, here goes.

I'm assuming the location is in a heavily forested area, and it's spring, summer, or fall, and it's near a lake.

In that case, I would want the following:

1. Leatherman tool
2. Army issue Poncho and liner (these are great things to have, they can be used for a multitude of things, in this case, I would use it mainly for shelter and/or a sleeping bag. They can easily be folded and attached to the back of your belt.
3. 25 feet of 10 # test fishing line and hooks.
4. bic lighter or flint/steel survivalist kit, (flint/steel preferred) edit, I think it is magnesium
5. canteen w/water purification straw and tablets
6. clothes on my back (Army BDU's with headgear and boots)
7. one small roll of duct tape.
8. One Army issue survival book.

If I can take them, two or three MRE's would make life very easy and almost relaxing. Hell, since I'm making a request, I'd take 4 or 5 and I wouldn't have to worry about hunting or fishing at all.

Given the above, I could survive for a hell of a lot longer than one week. One week would be a breeze with teh above items.
