What is your #1 Gripe about Microsoft?

My number one gripe is the idea that install cd's come in different flavors (corp, retail, oem) and cd-keys must be mated to these. If I show up to a client's site and he has an XP Pro box with a genuine sticker on the side, and I only have a corp or retail install cd and his is OEM, I can't help him.

It' driving me nuts more and more frequently these days :| :|

it might be the only 2 activations of vista. that could completely turn me away from them. if I change a videocard twice and have to buy a new licens I may go insane.

I really dont have any gripe with Microsoft. I find it amusing to see people bash them and complain.

Why is this amusing? I've had to reformat computers over and over and over again beacuse I used the wrong media for the cd key I had on hand. Microsoft has literally stolen days out of my life (and from my employer who pays for much of this frustration on my part) for this completley stupid and unnessecary practice.

Luckily Vista will only use one cd and the key will determine which version it installs.

the 2 hardware-change thing on Vista will probably be the worst for me. Of course, there are other less legal complaints, but...

Except it doesn't hurt pirates at all. There are corporate XP keys floating around that pass WGA.

Yeah, that one seriously ticks me off. I went out and spent the whopping $100 to pick up a copy of XP Home, off the shelf, two times for two different machines. I've jumped through the hoops to reactivate my copy, and now I'm going to continue the hassle with Windows Vista at some point. Plenty of us will.

But I still know plenty of people who haven't purchased a copy of Windows since whatever copy their first PC came with, and don't plan to. They don't really seem to have any issues running the same OS and software that I run, just without dealing with Microsoft or paying any money to do it. Yeah, that's cool.

Someone toss me the KY, I'm going to go buy some more software and music!

*grits teeth and bends over*

I'm all for obtaining software legally and not pirating, but if my key is pretty much useless after 2 installs and I'm installing to the same machine each time, you can bet your ass I'll do whatever I want with it.

ROFL!! What color is the sky in your world? The pirated no-activation corporate edition of XP hit the net before the retail version hit the shelves. The pirates are the only ones NOT dealing with that activation garbage.

Didn't Microsoft patch XP so it can't update the latest security holes without autenticating that it's legit, first?

It wasn't a security hole. All you had to do was disable the WGA add-on which Microsoft made extrodinarily easy. I mean, they added the freaking 'manage add-ons' button with SP2.

Crappy Windows security! No other operating system has nearly as many virus and spyware problems.

Office is overpriced, too.

It's not perfect, but neither are the others. If they were, corporate America and more home users would use them.
