What is wrong with google on my friends comp

as stupidly simple as it sounds, just check in the internet options to make sure some settings haven't been added in.

I imagine some were in the list I mentioned above. Most browser-related spyware is fairly easy to spot in a HJT log (just a matter of knowing what to look for).

And the interesting thing is that's after running both Norton Antivirus (of some version, anyway) and McAfee. That mirrors my experience when I was prying the malware off my little sister's rig.

yea its kickass, it found 1 or 2 on my comp when i installed and and it was totally clean according to Norton and AVG

i had some trojan sitting in a rar file, and i had Norton and AVG set to scan within archives :roll:
