What is with the disdain for "nonskilled" labor recently?

i don't understand the blatant lack of respect for people working "nonskilled" jobs lately.

pizza deliver, waitressing, construction worker etc.

any one that does any kind of job well deserves respect. to mock someone because they didn't hvae some of the educational opportunities or skills you had is just weak.

a good receptionist is worth good money. a bad receptionist is not worth much.

but how is that any different from doctor? a good doctor is worth good money, a bad doctor? why do they continue to get paid well? just because they have skills?

some of the most important skills in an employee are not things that show up on a resume. i've met many many doctors who aren't worth the dirt on the bottom of my shoes because of their attitudes and manners. and yet, i've seen very very good receptionists, nurses and staff make that practice work because they have the all important people skills.

i respect them. i am too lazy to do hard work like that
thank goodness i have a "brain" job

not everyone should get a masters degree in physics, otherwise who would clean the restrooms?

I worked as a delivery driver/shift leader for 2 1/2 years. I don't look down on anyone trying to make a living.

Whoever accepted the job at the equilibrium point on the supply/demand curve.😛

Some people make themselves feel better by putting down other people. Since it is no longer politically correct to think one is superior due to race, people use other means to measure their self worth in comparison to others by differentiating themselves due to being in a different social economic class. Some examples would be looking down on those with lower GPA, income and educational level, etc.

Neeeerd alert! 😛

Construction and pizza delivery do take skills. "Unskilled labor" is a misnomer. Certainly, it's not rocket science, but I bet no one at ATOT could be a good construction worker.

I think you fail to realize how big this forum is. Not everyone here is a 15 year old skinny nerd.

On the contrary... I'll prove that wrong. My dad owns a construction company and I've spent LOTS of time working for him during high school and college! Booya!

hmmm, i see nothing there that says you were a "GOOD" construction worker. 😉

BOOYA.

Too many spoiled children here thats why. None of them can fathom the idea of working a non-skilled job, because they don't have too.

Just be glad you guys didn't have to pick cherries when you were 12. I actually fell off the top of a 12 ft ladder doing so. I also delivered newspaper. Worked as a dishwasher at a chinese restaurant when I turned 15, often stayed til closing. Believe me when I tell you that it royally sucked so bad when you have to close if you're the dishwasher. At age 16 I got a good taste of overtime work when I was putting 68 hr/wk during the summer. Child labor law my @ss. I would literally pray for school to start again so I can just work part time.

I got a good sense early on how hard "nonskilled" labor was/is. I'm so thankful that I have a desk job now.

My first job was a desk job doing basic web updates and related jobs for a large car dealership in SoCal. The most "nonskilled" task that I had there was to take pictures of Jaguars and Aston Martins. 🙂
