What is with all the military cuts?

slatr: The US has the capability to produce its own energy resources, we just aren't doing it. If oil disappears, the market will switch to nuclear and bio fuels. Its financially unattractive at this time, because there is a huge cost burden of entry. However, it will be much more attractive then a full scale war with other asian nations that are so large as to be pretty much undefeatable.

The US has the capability to grow plenty of food, and could replace its energy sources IMO. I think our focus should be defense.
