What is WINS??

What is WINS and what is its purpose???

I have a network of 3 98se puters and one running 2000 advanced server. I have a static IP address, and will not be pointing a domain name to it. I just want to set this up just to do it. I can already launch 2000advserv and look at the other three puters. I want to setup a local website under a local IP, and have it so people on this network can type in the IP at one of the other three puters and pull up the site. I eventually want to install Coldfusion server and make it work with an access database.

Where do I start? I have read up on Windows Server a lot, but have never had a chance to put all of this stuff together before (using trial winserver program)

Your help is appreciated as I know there are others on this forum that will benefit from a little tutorial....

Thanks guys, I have fun here!

Windows Internet Naming Service.

It's used by NT 4=>, you won't be needing it with Win2K Server as it's replaced by DNS, just be happy about that 🙂

Oh and if you're feeling REALLY bored and wanna dig deeper into it, go search Technet.
