What is WINS?

I had to copy down an IP address from the WINS today. What is it?

It's a complete hassel and MS's answer to DNS for the most part.. it didn't work right... so Windows 2000 has Dynamic DNS and so far I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Is Dynamic DNS the windows 2000 equivalent of WINS?

No that Crap WINS is still there but for some LAN's you can now rid yourself of it and just use the D DNS.
