I would think IE would rank up there. I mean, it's not supported at all, but it's still built into windows. It's never upgraded, never any new features, and compared to alternatives, it's not hard to find a better browser. They update Windows, they update Office, they even spend a dime to update the Xbox with all new technology... but they can't be arsed to touch IE?

IE is supported. It's updated regularly as security holes are found. They are in the process of developing IE 7.

They didn't devote a lot of time to new features in IE because a) it had little competition (90+% market share), b) it's fast and c) it renders 95% of the websites out there without a problem. What's their motivation? (I'm not justifying their position, just trying to explain it).

Honestly, before broadband connections became widespread and spyware was non-existant, IE 5+ was a pretty fantastic browser.

MS Windows 1.0 (1985) was a heck of a lot worse than ME.
It wasn't until 5 years later (version 3) that it was actually usable.

I am posting this from my father's computer...with Windows ME.


It is unstable as hell. I thought there was something wrong with the computer because it freezes and crashes so much. I've checked the RAM, do Spyware/virus scans every week, remove the useless files...and it still crashes often.

Now that I read this thread I am sort of relieved that the culprit is the OS and not the computer itself

MS bob looks kind of cool actually, given it was probably made in like 1970 or something. But I never used it so I can't really say much about it.

The worse "software" Ms made has to be ME. They should of called it MWE (Might Work Edition). It's funny, I own a business and was fixing someone's PC, my first time getting an ME machine. Usually I either get 486's/P1s with win98 or new PCs with XP, and occasionally 98, and rarely 2000. Anyway, I clean the spyware and do the regular stuff, and the OS just collapses on itself for no reason. It's like a bomb or something.

IIS is probably another bad MS product, I don't even know if it qualifies as software, it's more like a trojan if you ask me. I don't have much hacking knowledge but I can down a IIS server in a matter of minutes. Mind you the latest patches seem to have fixed the biggest issues and it's a bit harder to down it compared to before. But given apache is available for windows, I have no clue why people even bother with IIS.

90% of the market has it because 90% of the market has windows, it's built into it. That's no excuse though, it's crippled compared to other browsers. By 1998 Opera was already better, that was 7 years ago. Windows was made better by leaps and bounds, along with other Microsoft products. IE still sucks.

IIS is the only web server that truly supports ASP and ASP.NET. If apache supported those technologies i'm sure a LOT of people would make the switch.

I'm actually quite surprised people haven't mentioned VSS. There are so many bugs to that product its ridiculous. It's like there was zero error handling when developing it. I've seen the "unknown error" message box popup more times than i care to remember.

Visual Source Safe ? Can't say I've actually had a problem with it ..... yet

Visual Source Safe is a terrible product. It's database becomes corrupted on a regular basis, it's slow and it lacks the features of more advanced products like Borland's StarTeam.
