I'm going to be purchasing an ASUS m5N laptop and it says it has uSODIMM. I've checked the web and have not found any anwers. I know what RAM and the various differences between pc####, etc.

What does the "u" stand for?
Is there a difference between uSODIMM and SODIMM?

Need some answers.

I emailed ASUS this is what they said:

Hi,

Another name is micro-Sodimm (the 'u' in engineering terms is sometimes referred to as 'micro'), but yes, it is not your standard notebook Sodimm memory, so you need to be careful to get the correct memory.

If the store assembled the system for you, you may want to make sure there are not any warranty problems if you install the memory yourself, and you may want to check with them regarding this.

Otherwise, you may want to either check our 'where to buy' at the North American www.asus.com site, or contact our notebook sales at notebooksales@asus.com if you want to buy the memory we are selling through our distributors.

I'm not aware of any advantages except possibly a slightly smaller size or smaller memory slot is used.

Sincerely,

Albert
