I went with my wife to see Blade II tonight (enjoyable action flick) and was shocked to see parents bringing in children as young as 2!!! to the movie. I saw one family come in with two boys between 4 and 8. Another family came in with a 2-3 year old little girl and a 5ish little boy. WTH!! There were several other groups with kids between 2 and 10.

Blade II is hardly family time folks. They didn't make it into a bloody, gory, horror/action flick for the Disney and Nickelodeon set.

I guess I'm just a very old 27 but my parents would have dropped dead before they let me see a movie like that at age 8.

the theater around here have a rule (strictly enforced) that a kid 6 or under cannot go into the theater. If there is an iffy call they just turn the customer away. :/ Quite a few people complained about kids in the paper so now the theater really enforces it.

are you kidding? so you think it is ok for a 4-8 year old to see a movie like blade II? i'm not going to be that strict of parent (if i ever do decide to have kids) that my kid can't see an R rated movie...but come on...this lacks common sense. :disgust:

i work with kids and you'll be amazed at how often their parents take them to see R movies. a couple kids kept talking about the fast and the furious. i was shocked that their parents let them watch such films and even more shocked the kids enjoyed it. i guess kids will enjoy anything :)

I saw a father take his what appeared to be 8-10 year old kids to see the South Park movie.
After the movie was over, the little boy gleefully repeated Uncle Fvcker over and over. I had to laugh but at the same time, what kind of parent would allow that at 8?

My parents let me watch R-rated movies from a very young age, and I turned out perfectly normal.

No, really, I did.

Quit looking at me or I'll shoot you in the face. :|

I know! That was what happened when i saw resident evil. A school of little kids came in with their parents, and they look like they are in kindergarten. Whats up with that? those kids will grow up to be an interesting bunch.

now thats a little extreme but i watch any movie before i take my kids to them 8 and 10
simply because of too many suprises.

i see nothing wrong with educating my children but there are major limits not by age but by maturity and coping with what they see.

i feel as a dad that my responsibility is to expose them to the real world but in pace with their growing minds and by showing them acceptable and unacceptable examples to base their judgements on

my .02 cents worth

I've been in homes where the adults in the house were all watching porn, and their (someone's) little kids were in the room watching. They acted like it was no big deal at all.

I went to see Black Hawk Down a while ago and I was shocked. There were kids there who started laughing in the theater when people were being shot...

I don't understand some things. I hate people who blame the media for our problems, but having your very young child exposed to that kind of thing isn't exactly kosher.

Why not? Blade 2 is perfect for children. It appeals to those with short attention spans, love of gratuitous violence, and does not even attempt to provoke thought or emotion. Bring a child of 5 to Being John Malkovitch, Requiem for a Dream, or The Shawshank Redemption and they'll have a terrible time because they won't be able to think or empathize on the level for which the movie is intended. Adults should stop watching childish movies so that writers and directors can tone down the gore and nudity to a level which the adults find acceptable.

I fart in your general direction!

Sorry, but your riding-in-on-a-high-horse post forced me to respond that way :)

Look, there are movies that are appropriate for certain age levels. Blade II is not appropriate for any child under the age of 12 at the very least. Heck, I wouldn't let my child see Being John Malkovich because of the lust, language, bi-sexuality, disturbing puppet sex and other freaky things in that movie. Nor would I let them see Requiem because of all the drug content. The Shawshank Redemption I would let someone around the age of 10 or older watch but would have them leave the room for prison rape scenes.

I couldn't agree with PARENTS that allow this.

those people aren't adults their children who have no morals or self respect or respect for others

children will and grow up but at what cost to their childhood?shouldn't they be allowed to remain children albiet knowledgable in the world but with out all the graphic details?

a childs mind to me is precious and as such should have knowledge but not to the point of being detrimental to the growth of the child?

i have sat my children down and explained what rape etc.. are but that don't mean i want them to watch a raping, isn't it enough to build the minds thought web without all the spaces being filled in by graphic details?

my children do not watch southpark what would they learn from that?

the ratings system blows.
movies are movies. Just make sure you're kids know that it is make believe.

and I really hate how movie theaters card people. That blows too.
HA.. like it's gonna stop anyone from getting in and watching the movie.

I have yet to see a movie theater in the Atlanta area that cards kids for rated-R movies. They won't turn away a buck....or $7.50 in this case.

When I went to see Blade 1 there was a woman that brought her screaming brat. She eventually left with the brat and got a standing ovation as well as cheers.

Any time there's a national school violence case, all the politically correct idiots come out screaming about video games, movies, music, blah blah blah. They never put the blame where it belongs............parenting. Or in the case of this thread, lack of it.
