What is up with double standards?

Kabelego gave me the idea for this post. ;) Why are woman sluts if they sleep around, and men considered studs? Men get mature, women get old. Men get portly or stout, women get fat. And there are so many more. Why do men get all the good words to describe their behavior, and women just get the short end of the stick?

I look forward to your input on this. :)

Maybe I am not the typical guy but I consider any person whos goal is to sleep with as many people as possible just as much as a slut. It does not impress me, nor do I look up to these sort of men. But as a male, most people will assume I DO appreciate that sort of behavior and like to hear about it at work.

and BTW...most women get the short end of the stick because that is all that those kinda guys have :D

Girlfriday we got a guy at work and believe me, he isn't a study. I think he is a greasy man-whore.

I'm with you GF! I'm a guy, but I don't think that makes me any different. I know a few male sluts! I know big O' fat boys! Can't explain the age thing though... I'm doing my part with the others but only women can shape the attitude of the old men still attractive thing....

A little thought to help from Adam Sandler:

"...his wrinkly, saggy skin all over you with his OLD BALLS" heheh ;)

Honestly, I think it is the way society values the male and the female.

The female has always been put on a pedestal, held above everything else. I could imagine that is why they are so criticized if they don't follow the tight ideals of the community.
Males, on the other hand, are dirty, greasy monkeys that haven't quite evolved. I don't think society expects much culture out of the male, only production. A succesful male is one that can produce, in the work place, at home, where ever it may be.

Here's another double standard...in my softball league, if a guy gets walked he get to walk to second, a girl only gets to go to first. However, they can't use the excuse...guys hit harder than girls because we have one girl that hit a homerun, and another one that hits doubles everytime shes up to bat. If she didn't have something wrong with her legs she could get to home (shin spurs or something).

Men who sleep around are pathetic too. As far as cultural inclinations go, how may 30 year old women are attracted to say, Sean Connery as compared to 30 year old men attracted to any 70 year old woman? Lauren Bacall maybe.

as posted in the "insane woman" thread:

...because men have always been pigs. Up until the last 20 or so years, we relied on women to keep us in line. Now they want to be just as bad as us! ;)

The "double standard" works in other ways that favour women. Women can make outrageous male-bashing jokes, and men are supposed to find them funny. Think of the Dixie Chicks' song "Goodbye Earl." If a guy group tried to promote a humorous song about murdering a woman, would it get any airplay?

My cousin Joe used to boast about his erotic prowess by claiming that he'd had one-night stands with more than 5,000 women. Once, at a family gathering, my mother overheard this claim. She shrugged at Joe and said "So what's to be proud? None of them would ever go out on a second date?"

The notion that young men are uninterested in older women is nonsense. I've had guys half my age slavering after me. Had to whack 'em with a stick.
Fortunately, they provided their own sticks, and the whacking wasn't at all unpleasant. :D

It is true, it does go both ways. But while men may get bashed (which even I must admit is fun time to time :) ) they make more money and get better promotions than women. The average women makes 75% of what a man does, for the exact same position. And I am not saying this is all mens faults, so don't get all bent out of shape boys. I am just pointing out that unfortunately that is the way it is in the world. And I would just like to know who designated these words to describe a woman, as I would love to give him a good "male bashing". ;)

She shrugged at Joe and said "So what's to be proud? None of them would ever go out on a second date?"

LMAO!!!! :D

Wombat Woman,

<< If a guy group tried to promote a humorous song about murdering a woman, would it get any airplay? >>

I don't think you have to worry too much about that particular double standard anymore. Have you ever heard Kim by Eminem?

(its still a long ways away from getting radio play though)

girlfriday, In all honesty I really don't know anyone who really thinks that way. IMHO, thats just an old ideal that just won't die.

Back in the summer of 87, I broke up with a girl who I had been with for over 3 years. I found myself doing the singles scene at a popular night club. I would bring a different woman home every Friday and Saturday night, I considered myself a slut but for some odd reason my friends thought I was the stud. I am with you on this one girlfriday, I don't know why. Guys I see doing today, I call them a slut, if they try to say otherwise, I prove them wrong. :)
