I was born bright blonde, but was dark brown by age 4 or 5

My little brother was born with nearly jet-black hair, was bright blonde by age 5, and now is dirty blonde (and I think still getting darker) at age 22

On a side note.

When I went back to my 30th high school reunion there was one guy I didn't recognize. He showed me a pic of himself in my year book.

me: "Funny, you hair wasn't BLACK back then."

Him: "Yes it was!!!" walks away and doesn't talk to me anymore... ;)

Yep. I had blonde hair until I was 5 or 6 years old, then it turned light brown and has been ever since.

They get older, they get smarter and the hair color changes appropriately. ;)

(my theory at any rate!)

My little brother and sister are like that, when they were born up until about 6 or 7 they had platinum blonde hair and green eyes. My bros hair is now dark brown and his eyes have turned more hazel. Sister is still blonde (although I'm not sure if she's been cheating) but her eyes turned more bluish.

Strange though, as my hair is almost black, and my mom swears my eyes are as blue as the day I was born (people ask me if I'm Greek) Genes are so weird.

Just a guess: in young children, the melanocytes are either not present and/or haven't started producing melanin. As the indivdual ages, some signals (perhaps related to or similar to puberty events) stimulate melanin production.

<----- blonde!

I was born with bright curly red hair, it all fell out when I was about 6 months old (my mom was devastated, she wanted a redhead like her little brother) and it came in blonde after an ackward time where I was bald as a cueball.

I was blonde as a toddler and it eventually turned to brown. When I moved to Corpus Christi, Tx in high school, my hair started to turn red. Midway through college at the Univ of Alabama it went back to brown but I still have red tints in my goatee and sideburns.

What's with caucasian people kissing their relatives and family on the lips? Is that why they all have "cold sores"?

While hair
color is generally cited in basic biology classes as an example of how
Mendelian genetics applies to easily observed human phenotypes, the sordid
truth is that except in special cases, hair color is not a simple matter of
dominant dark alleles and recessive light alleles. Hair color is not a
discrete trait, but rather a trait with a continuous distribution. That
is, between platinum blonde and black there are a million subtle shades of
natural hair coloration. Thus it is likely that there are many alleles at
many genes which affect pigmentation, and the sum of the activities of
these alleles (as measured by pigment production) produce a given hair color.

Is this why blondes girls are considered very attractive? Blonde hair is a sign of youth? But that doesn't explain why guys like me (with black hair) finding blonde girls attractive.

For me it has been quite the opposite. As a child I had black/dark brown hair...now it is turning lighter to a blondish/red...I am only 19 too..
