What is "Unmountable Boot Volume"?????

Every time i boot up, I get an error message on a blue screen saying mainly "Unmountable Boot Volume
" ..........what does that mean and how can i fix it?? Thanx

You are running win2k or XP i assume. Boot from your win2k or XP cd Or use your recovery disk. When you get to the point of installion. choose the repair option. Now in XP this will take you to the command prompt. For win2k I think you need to take an additional step to get there. Once you are on the command prompt do these to things.

type in

fixboot

and

chkdsk /r

This will fix your little problem there.

Unfortunately, this means the filesystem on your OS drive is badly damaged.

If you have retail (MS) media, boot to the recovery console, run chkdsk, and your system should boot.

If you have OEM "quick restore" media, you're probably looking at rebuilding your system.

I get this same message about every month, and I run the recovery console and it fixes itself for a while. It's probably best to reformat, hunh?

No.

Read Q315403 and get the hotfix. I see that it should be on the Critical Updates part of Windows Update.
