What is typical fuel economy for a Class A Motorhome

I can't find much information about the kind of gas mileage the very large motorhomes get. My guess would be around 6mpg on a 330hp diesel? Anybody know for certain what to expect? Thanks.

whoa, I never knew that car was so heavy. I get ~15mpg with a car half that weight, so I guess 7mpg is understandable.

If he's not in 4x4, low range its not

Our '02 Dodge Ram with Cummins turbodiesel engine that weighs 7000+ lbs will get 20 MPG on the freeway.

Well, it depends on the kind of driving he does. I used to get around 12mpg doing entirely city driving.

What's that old saying ...." If you gotta ask, you can't afford it"? 😀

10 mpg tops, downhill, with a tailwind.

A light steady foot will be your friend, it's not a Miata. Also, you'll need to stay in the power band.

It's not a matter of whether or not it's affordable. It's not a matter of the cost of fuel, more an environmental question.

Just curious why you opted for the V10 over the turbo diesel. Would've been a no brainer for me.

Before it was stolen it had 2 superchargers and was crazy fast. When I bought it the whole diesel tuning craze was just getting started and I didn't have the $5k or so that the diesel cost. That and the whole 'I have a 8 liter v-10 what do you have? a 6 liter? ha!' argument 😛 In hindsight, I would have rather bought the diesel.

What have you done to it to get it up to 8800lbs? (or where do you get your figures)

I did some checking and the heaviest I could come up with was a 2005 Ram 3500. Long bed, dual rear wheels, 4x4, and a crew cab and it's curb weight is less than 6800.

A similar configuration for a 1995 model is less than 6000 lbs (may not have dual rear wheels)

Have you bolted 2000lbs of lead to it for some reason?

(Looking around a little more shows a curb weight of around 7100lbs for one configuration but the 3500, 4x4, lwb, drw, crew cab I listed above shows less than 6900lbs from the vast majority of sites I found) If there is a heavier configuration, I don't know of it.

I put it on a truck scale. Its only a buck or 2 at a truck stop, especially since it doesn't need to be certified. It was over 8700 less than 8800, I forget the exact amount. It is a extended cab long bed and has a 1/4" steel rear plate bumper that I built that has a 12000 lb winch and 2 extra batteries in the bumper with 4/0 cable run to the front where the other battery is. It also has additional skid plating also made out of 1/4" plate for protection. Also has a bed mounted tool box with onboard air with 5 gallon tank and full tool set (enough to completely dissemble the truck, so I am talking air tools up to and including a 1200 ft/lb impact gun and impact sockets to 2") Couple of hydraulic jacks (3 total) full recovery gear including 4 or 5 tow straps, chain, etc.

so it isn't exactly stock 😉

Well, since I didn't see you mention "55 gallon drums of fuel" in your list-o-goodies up there, you should limit your plans for the end of the world to trips of less than 300 miles. 😉

Me and my 12mpg F150 will make it about 120 miles closer to Valhalla than you. 😀

Maybe he just doesn't carry it around but has them in his backyard abandoned missile silo?

mmmm... missile silo

A better question than "can I afford the gas" is "why would I even want an RV?"

The RV lifestyle sucks. Drive across the country on ugly freeways at 55mph getting flipped off by all the cars, fuel up for about a billion dollars and get flipped off by all the environmentalists, pay a bunch of money to stay at a glorified trailer park for a few days, and then have nothing to do but watch TV, talk to all other old fogeys in their RVs, and clean out your sewage tank.

We know who WON"T be going into RV sales....
