What is truly the best band on earth?

My favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin... As for a more recent band, I think Incubus are quite intrigueing, they are quite different sounding and I like it 🙂

The best band in the world WAS The Police...

AFAIK the most played (or requested) single on US radio is 'Every Breath You Take'.

The best band is probabaly Steely Dan. They can take an audience full of three chord brains, lift them out of their seats, and take them on a truly wild romp of jazz chord progressions, time changes, and far out lyrics. When they finally set 'em down in their seats, at the end of the tune, the audience never knows they left three chord land. They just know they've enjoyed being someplace very weird. 😀

Where other jazz guys complain that the audience "just can't understand" their music, Steely Dan simply reaches out and builds and maintains the communication. That is the hallmark of truly great art.

Lets give a classification at least.

My nomination for the best Bar Band - The Rolling Stones

Now the best:
Rock
Blues
Dixieland
Heavy Metal
and so on!

that is like...a lot of votes for tool.

I have to toss in U2. Maybe The Who.

If you count soloists separately...Bob Dylan or Woody Guthrie. And I think Screamin' Jay Hawkins was just way too ahead of his time to have been really appreciated. 😉

<< Weezer has gotta be one of the best. >>

Better than Hansen but that's all I'll give them.

Steely Dan is a great band but I'll say Pink Floyd because they do the same thing as Steely Dan plus you get Flashbacks🙂 All of PF's Albums are Epic Classics. I can't think of a band that's been able to do what they have for as long.

The band has to be still selling records now, and you have to be able to see then still selling records years down the road after they're not recording anymore. I can't see tool doing that, so I'm not nominating them. Metallica has somewhat stood the test of time, but that's mainly because they're still making records, so I'm not nominating them either.

Here's who I think are the best (I have a list).

Pink Floyd (c'mon they had a record on the billboard for the longest time ever)
Led Zeppelin (I wonder how big they'd be if they were still making records now)
Rolling Stones (40 years later...)
The Beatles (Of course...)

I personally think SRV is awesome, and has to be the most talented musician IMO, but I wouldn't include him in this list.

Either gotta be Pink Tool or Tool Floyd, take your pick 😉

Seriously, although they are are completely different musically, both of Tool and Pink Floyd would get my votes for best band ever.

Ill third (or fourth...or whatever) Pink Floyd.

And Ill toss in The Ramones, The Decendants, and Davey Jones for good measure.
