What is 'torrent'?

If so, what are the popular types/topics of the videos?

been living under a rock much recently?

A "torrent" file is hosted somewhere, anywhere, and users download the small file and the bittorrent app will go out and contact the main seed server, find other users, and download/upload as needed.

edit: for the nitpickers. I'm not an expert. "main seed server", I really meant to say that your system contacts the tracker server to find other seeders and peers accessing the same torrent. If anyone really absolutely wants the exact terminology, they should look up the whitepages on the bittorrent.com site. Again, I'm not an expert, I'm just trying to give a rough description of how it works...

Main seed server, huh?

So, what is "internet?"

I see it refered to frequently. Are they talking about AOL?

If so, what are the popular types/topics of the chatrooms?

the internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to b*tch about movies and share pornography with one another.

Please research distributed computing architecture, then rethink that statement about main seed server.

Sorry, I don't claim to be an expert, just giving a rough description of how it works... "main seed server" is the wrong terminology for what I'm trying to describe, but hey, I'm at work doing other things right now...

As far as I know bittorrent has nothing to do with distributed computing. as for the "main seed server", I believe you are referring to the tracker, which is used to discover peers when you are downloading a torrent.
