What is Time?

I believe in the that Time dialates when the speed changes after i read the results. BUT i just cannot get it in my mind that time, can dialate. I dont think i am very clear but i cant visualize time slowing down as time has a certain "rate"? And also cannot visualise that time was not present before the big bang.
